COZIDO NO VALDEIRAS | The Most Beautiful Cozido I've Ever Seen in Rio de Janeiro

Cozido is one of the most emblematic dishes of Luso-Carioca cuisine, and it was precisely in search of what many consider the best cozido in Rio that I went to Café e Bar Valdeiras, a classic in the city center located on the historic Rua Teófilo Otoni.

In today's video, I try the famous cozido served on Wednesdays at Valdeiras, a veritable mountain of meats, sausages, vegetables, greens, and pirão (a type of porridge), one of those dishes that easily feeds two people.

Besides the food, I tell the story of cozido, an ancestral dish that originated in the Portuguese peasant tradition and gained its own characteristics in Brazil through the indigenous and African influences present in our cuisine.

I also take the opportunity to explore the history of Rua Teófilo Otoni, which preserves an important part of the city's architecture and atmosphere from the 19th and 20th centuries.

And of course, I try the famous artisanal hot sauce from Valdeiras, prepared by José Guilherme with garlic, cachaça, salt, malagueta pepper, and scorpion chocolate.

If you enjoy traditional bars, historic restaurants, Rio de Janeiro cuisine, and stories that help us understand the formation of our culinary tradition, this video is for you.
