well, the manual for the game suggests that this game is a realistic wasteland simulator developed by vault tec to prepare vault dwellers for life outside the vault.

As an older guy, who literally scrimped and saved his quarters in order to buy this way back in release, it's amazing to see that newer generations are finding out how great this game still is.

I tend to treat those long essays as background noise at best. The genre got polluted by people who don't really have anything to say and unnecessarily protract simple thoughts, as if vidya is where you find profound truths. But this. This is a well-made documentary and a proper love letter to something that is worth being cherished. Thank you.

Clicked on this expecting a gamer's recap of Fallout I could play in the background and barely pay attention to while drawing and what I got instead is an artist's documentary about the beauty of a game and how it's troubled production is one of the main reasons as to why it's so great, I don't think I'll ever forget the architect and gardener analogy, amazing video man :)

1:03:23 The NCR dollar is the primary currency in Fallout 2. You can find a bag of 10,000 bottle caps that are completely worthless. Bethesda inexplicably brought caps back as a currency in Fallout 3. New Vegas retains both bottle caps and NCR dollars and adds legion coins and poker chips.

huh... I always thought the TV was "Radiation is still crazy high and these things are so darned well made they still sporadically turn on by background radiation".
