Why most raglan sweaters don't fit — and what I changed in my pattern

Most raglan sweaters don't fit because of one rule no one questions. Compound shaping changes that — and it's the heart of my first pattern.

This is the episode where Isabella, my very first original design, just went live on Ravelry — built around a varied-rate raglan increase rhythm that actually shapes around real bodies, not a one-size-fits-the-sample average. I walk through what compound shaping is, why the standard every-other-round formula causes most raglan fit problems, and how that thinking has quietly built itself into six of the original designs currently on my needles.

We also cover Liv Tee finished and looking for test knitters, four works-in-progress at very different stages (Siv waiting for her blocking moment, Ridge mid-redesign, Pearl carrying the leftovers from my wedding dress, and Anne Marie about to go back to her cast-on edge), a brand-new experimental custom-fit summer tee I've been building in Excel for months, and the Markagarn yarn from Oslo Mikrospinneri that came home with me from Bergen Strikkefestival.

🧶 Why I Knit
For me, knitting is more than just following a pattern—it's about creativity, self-expression, and making something truly my own. I love adapting designs, playing with Norwegian wool, and experimenting with different knitting techniques to create handmade wardrobe pieces that fit seamlessly into my life. Whether it’s modifying a colorwork sweater, adjusting knitting gauge, or designing my own knitted wedding dress, I believe knitting should bring joy, curiosity, and endless inspiration. Let’s celebrate the art of making together!
