Regarding theft of design/development ideas, I love that Randy brings this up. Suggestion to everyone... send a note to the President of Stewmac (and LMII), tell him you would prefer to see them license ideas and give credit to the inventor (regardless of patent or not)... this would show some class on the part of bigger companies, and would be appreciated by craftsmen-customers.

I know Mitchel he lives in my town and man after meeting him and having him do some work on a guitar of mine, I can definitely say that the plate mate is incredible for not just keeping your bridge plate in good shape but it does provide a better sound quality as well

I just bought a 40 year old acoustic guitar, and put a mirror in the hole and I see some bad spots and deep dents and gouges around the ball ends. I just ordered one of these PlateMates, and thanks again for taking the time to do the video Randy. God bless!

Damn I'm a believer. I have a cheap guitar whereas I took all the strings off to change the oil on my guitar fingerborder. Damn man I stuck my hand inside my soundhole and felt splintered wood  under the bridge plate. I got on the phone right away to order myself a plate mate for my nice martin guitar before something happens to it.

Hoping mine arrives in the mail today or tomorrow.

If you have trouble visualizing the centers of the string pin holes: if your pins have the little bullseye on the knob, stick the two E string pins in and measure between the bullseyes.  If you have plain-top pins, measure instead between the same side of both the E string pin holes.  For instance, with the neck facing away from you, measure from the left edge of the low E pin hole to the left edge of the high E pin hole.  Cheers!

I’ve installed a home made plate mate on all my acoustic guitars now, Randy. I make them all the same now, I measure the holes using a simple piece of masking tape and a sharpie. Then drill 6 x 5mm holes in a strip of hobby brass strip. Works easily as well as a plate mate and costs next to nothing. Huge increase in sustain and tuning stability 😎

It's a good idea to feel inside up under the bridge and see if you need to use a little sandpaper first. Your bridge plate is likely to be splintered a little, or a lot.

Good video thanks for sharing. Tell the owner that guitar did not come from Martin Factory with Plastic Bridge Pins. If they are plastic. They had to be changed at the store where he bought the guitar. I have been to the Martin factory several times over the years. He should call the Martin Factory. They will fill him in on what products they use. But that's an awesome guitar. I am looking forward to seeing to finish the repairs and play the guitar. Again A great video. Thanks for sharing. Hey man, thanks so much for the videos. I'm a broke graduate student and just play guitar to relax. Because I of you I saved about $200 on installing tuners, and shaving down my own nut and saddle. I could probably still use a minor setup but I saved some cash!
