This channel is fantastic. ⭐ I have a moral obligation to learn about the struggles of the African peoples. I honor their heritage and culture and I have a profound respect for the people of Africa ancestry. God bless everyone and 🕊️ PEACE IS POSSIBLE
How very Blessed we are to have grown up "poor ", without ever knowing, feeling , or even thinking we were poor. The children these days, haven't a clue about all this amazing food abd the love that went into each and every meal.❤
This is a beautiful video. I was married in 1971. My first supper that I made after I was married was chicken with red rice — a 4 chicken legss (29 cents a pound), 2 cups of washed rice (10 cents), 1 large onion (5 cents), 1 can of tomatoes plus water to make 3 cups (29 cents), and if I had one I might have added a bell pepper. It was early September, so I probably had the pepper, but I don’t remember.
I learned to cook from my aunts, who learned from my grandmother. (My mother did not like to cook, so I did not learn from her.) My grandma grew up on a farm in Slovakia before she came to the U.S. in the early 1900s. Even though Slovakia has a different culture from the rural South in the U.S., on a farm, they had a lot of the same ingredients to work with. So your way of cooking sounds very familiar to me. I made many of the same things, and now, in my 70’s, I still make them.
Every meal mentioned my mother (from Alabama) made in 1960 until 2014. The PORK was excluded in the 70's The BEEF was excluded in 2000. Recipes were adjusted but still tasted good.. I never call food cheap. It was INEXPENSIVE, healthy home cooked with ❤ food.
Thank you mother. ❤ I need to hear this right about now. These days are very lean but the pot and rice don't know that. Many of those meats are hard to find now and are super expensive. That is why this video is so important. We have to get our pencils out.
The talking of you and your husband eating on the floor was BEAUTIFUL and reminds us how BLESSED we truly are even in spite of how much food cots these days 20026!!
The women in my family and neighborhood used to make baked beans with canned pork and beans, brown sugar, a little vinegar, mustard, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, green pepper, onion. Delicious. I miss those meals. Gid bless you for keeping these traditions alive alive. Keep up the good work.
Thank you for sharing this moment of my childhood memories. That’s how my mother survived with 5 kids and had no job but God gave her wisdom. How to feed her husband and 5 kids. We never went hungry. Everybody loved my mother’s cooking. Mrs Lucilla Coleman RIP Love u Mom🥰
