Fully agree on the carry/lift situation. No complaints about making the sport cleaner. You can still hit smart shots and have finesse, just make sure the contact is clean. Harder to execute? Sure. But that's a good thing in my eyes.

Some of these ideas sound really good. Marking the challenge, more strict approach to the lift, no timeout after challenge - I like those.

2:25 but... we don't want that. Do we? We don't want the serve receive to be easier/better. Because that makes the first attack even stronger which leads to more points ending after the first attack. We want more longer rallies, or not?

Lifts and carries and long holds or push  aren’t getting called anymore in volleyball. You see a lot of players always complaining to the refs to complain but to no avail. Basic volleyball rules or calls not being implemented makes viewers wonder.

Many thanks for your video and analysis.
Being a volleyball "dinosaur", I seem to recall that you could block serves back in the 80s. It would be great to reinstate that rule; it would allow very strong teams with spike serves to be less dominant and more vigilant on defense.
Furthermore, a sport that re-evaluates itself is really good for its players, the public and the media.
When I compare modern Rgby to what it was thirty years ago, there's simply no comparison.

The libero setting in the front row rule change was not an idea. It was a published scheduled change for the 2026 VNL.  The FIVB went back on the decision due to global backlash.  This change wouldn’t revolutionized out of system offense it would eliminate the existence of defensive sub types. What would end up happening if this rule was placed, is teams would put their primary setters in a libero jersey and create a lineup that has a permanent back row setter and five hitters in every rotation.  There maybe a couple of pins that are more pass focused, but teams will take the marginally less consistent passing with the ability to be another terminal option over a first contact specialist.  This rule change was going to eliminate a whole category of players from the sport.  This rule change will never see the light of day.  This will change should never see the light of day.

what is considered "ceiling"? anything that belongs to the building? rafters? side walls also?air vents? lamps? gymnastics equipment?

Great video as always. Your insights are well received.. I have to disagree with your beach volleyball comment. On the issue of ball contacts, Beach volleyball has almost entirely gotten rid of ball handling standards. jumping downward volleys, huge doubles, setting the ball from your chest and throwing it across your body...these are all completely ignored now adays in beach and the game has become FAR too lose and is losing its niche seapration from indoor. IMO i really think they need to come down hard on ball handling standards on both the beach and indoor sides of the game. I.E any overhead volley was IMMEDIATELY CALLED on beach 10 years ago, but now everyone volleys on first contact.

Love your videos! Keep up the good work. Love from Canada.

12:57 Liberos being able to set in the front row would change more than just out-of-system offence - it would change offence entirely. Teams would have the option of making their setter put on a libero jersey and play with 2 opposites. That way, you would always have a backrow setter and a frontrow opposite.

Liberos can serve already, at least under NFHS and USAV rules in the US

The biggest thing that slows volleyball down and makes it unwatchable is after the rally dies it takes long for the serve to be done for the next play to start. If if they had some sort of timer that made the players quickly get to the back and start their new serve that would change the whole game and make it a lot more palatable to watch . As it stands right now every time I watch volleyball I click the skip button and Skip 15 seconds after a rally dies . It needs to be as quick as basketball if they want it to be more enjoyable

Volleyball standards should align with Nebraska

Why doesn't the no-screening rule get enforced at all? Or did that get removed?

Yes it is clickbait 😀 Still clicking on it though

Bring back the net touch rule where touching the top band is the infraction unless they intentionally touch the net

Imagine being 50 and remembering the glorious times of Volleyball, without Libero, with side out, 15 points to win the set, the white ball.
Then you experience the first big change in rules that ruined the sport. You keep hoping they will someday get back to the old rules for years. But instead you get the next set of idiotic new rules that will ruin it even further.
Sad story. My story.

5:37 nobody ever really complains? Duuude sooo many arguments about what's a double touch and what's not. That whole thing with jump setting

What would happen if they started to allow net touch? Would it really be so bad? That slows down the game immensely.

FIVB:  Fcktards Impeding Volleyball Basics.
They are doing everything they can to dumb this sport down to the point that it's ruined.
Every time they pass a rule that removes penalties for ugly ball-handling, they prove they’re just Fcktards Impeding Volleyball Basics. As Lloy Ball put it in his 2012 Article 'Dumbing Down of the Sport', we are losing players with a natural "nose for the ball" because everything is being simplified. When you erase the consequences for bad form, you destroy the instinct, feeling, and creative problem-solving that makes elite volleyball great.

Even Karch Kiraly advocates for high level fundamental skill acquisition.

I, for one, hate that Mikasa ball has gotten a lot uglier in the bast 20 years. Blue/yellow Mikasa MVA200 was the last sort of nice looking volley ball 🙄
