That Cinelli is incredible!

Proof positive that when one is not racing, any old MTB is a great choice for bikepacking.

The Rampichino is superb.

that 80s frame is a grail

These guys know their stuff! So refreshing to see well argued, well designed rigids, both old and new. Machine Beauties!

Truth be told: I still prefer my old 26er MTB for Touring over my modern hardtail or gravel bike any day. When you are a small rider, an old steel MTB frame will give you way more space - as demonstrated in the video.

6:47 The sandals here are Bedrocks. Wonderful biking footwear. Their clogs (with wool socks) are perfect for winter.

I once saw a guy in town on an early-model Bianchi mountain bike, perhaps a thrift-store find as he was just a regular guy on a bike.  My eyes were celeste with envy. 😀

6am PLP drops lets goooooo

That was so interesting and thought provoking. Two totally different bike designs from different eras, even. Each ridden by what I would consider to be professional bicycle travellers. Cycling in the Pyrenees no less! I bet they each have a 'mountain of adventure' on this trip! I predict: they both find their bikes have both good & bad points, but they each successfully complete the trip and can sing the praises of their individual bikes. IMHO, I still believe that the person on the bike makes the most difference on a trip like this, and the various bits & bobs on the bike are not the important elements, given a certain level of durability and reliability. I would be interested in watching a follow-up to their trip, where they talk about the experience and showcase how their gear choices responded to the stress of the trip. Thanks for sharing!

I only started riding a year ago and honestly, my everything bike will probably always be a rigid frame 26er. I just took my heavy old suspension fork off my 2008 mountain bike and replaced it with a rigid fork with more attachment points for things like fenders. Still dialing in the fit but I'm already in love.

Just did a first shakedown ride+tour across Florida &  back on my 1987 Raleigh Mountain Tour. Very similar bag set up, Brooks saddle, and mostly original including the bullmoose bars. Running 650b x 42 GK SS (soon to be SK) and coming from my Diverge for most long-haul trips, including the entire East Coast Greenway, the taller bike feeling is real. The ride feel, geometry, and handling took maybe 30 minutes for my body to adjust to, and now I don't want to touch the Diverge for a while. I always thought full-time commuting on my Rockhopper would build up the legs, and it sure did.  Vintage MTB forever!

Those giant BXB bags looked amazing.  BUT!  Idon'tneedanotherbagIdon'tneedanotherbagIdon'tneedanotherbagIdon'tneedanotherbag....

I remember that bike!

That Cinelli Rampichino is so cool! I feel like it’s a bit Italian and eccentric but yeah super cool. With those massive looking bags and everything it’s a slightly eccentric looking rig anyway, but he seems a little eccentric and interesting too anyway. Love it really.

Love the work Jay / BXB does. He is currently crafting me my third handlebar bag. That frame bag looks great. Need to add one of those to my rig.

I have a completely original Overbury's Crossfell from Bristol UK 1985. I did change tyres and pedals but have the originals. Almost identical to the Rampichino (except I have seperate bars/stem). I only use it locally. Lovely things to ride.

Bxb in Tucson ftw!!

Very cool! Cheers!!

WOW, one hell of a cool bike. That's exactly what I want - normal width cranks, wide tires.
Kona was SO DAMN CLOSE with their 2026 Dr Dew (it's not high end bike, but it can be anything), but they made the chainstay WIDE AS HELL, so only 170+ Q-factor cranks fit :(
