STORIES FROM SOVIET PRISONS

Chass

Here's a compilation of interesting stories, both legends and first hand, from various prison and detention complexes in Russia. This one was a rather hard one to translate due to the amount of really obscure Russian prison slang.

Funfact about Soviet prisons! Inmates would try to leave codes to one another by borrowing a book from the library (if it had one) and pricking the back of the letters to spell out words, then recommending that book to the person they wished to communicate in secret to. I have a copy of a book that had been confiscated during Stalins time and was used as reading material in one of those camps, and it has some small indentations behind various letters. It didn't spell out anything interesting though.

God I love stories involving the materialist Soviet union and the paranormal, seeing stories of communists (a number of whom atheist) dealing with things that they can't explain and how they go about dealing with such things, I find personally fascinating
