Syril's clothing also changes a lot through this season- he starts off looking like the perfect imperial cog, but by episode 8, he's dressed mostly like a Gorman citizen.

Syril had his “Are we the baddies” moment

"you didn't mind the promotions" was her one last grasp to regain the upper hand in the relationship, only to realize it was over before the conversation even began

What bothers me....we're only 3 episodes away from not having this level quality of Star Wars production anymore.

Syril points the gun at Andor. Andor shouts “Who are you?” Syril’s look…Priceless

Crazy to hear Mauler and Drinker so positive.

The “You didn’t seem to mind the promotions” line is so cold.  We see at the beginning of the season that Syril takes pride in his new managerial role at the Bureau of Standards.  He repeats the  “There are no small jobs” line to a new employee and then proceeds to brag about a criminal ring that he supposedly broke up.  He has newfound confidence in himself.  He no longer feels like a loser living with his mom.  Now Dedra is implying that Syril didn’t earn that promotion, that the Empire manufactured his success in order to groom him into doing their bidding on Ghorman.  By the time he sees Andor he’s just desperate for some validation.  That’s why he hesitates when Andor says “Who are you?”  Just brutal.

What got me was Dedra’s panic attack in the secure comms room at the end of the episode, where she is trembling uncontrollably and clawing at her uniform. We have NEVER seen an Imperial in any kind of moral anguish before (outside of Darth Vader at the end of ROTJ), and while I’m definitely not expecting Dedra to turn against the Empire, it adds to the tragedy of her character.

Syril is not really a bad guy, he's a good guy who is misled.. He believes in the propaganda of the Empire, that does not make him bad, he believes in order, rules and law, he believes he is helping the Empire making things better, till it all shatters for him.. Such a great character, ill miss him on screen.

Dedras acting is great in this scene too. Especially the little flinch when he shouts 'How long'? So good it seemed a genuine reaction. Maybe he wasn't meant to shout it. Good stuff.

I'd argue that there are plenty of scenes where you see that she IS breaking ahead of this.   She puts on the stoic face whenever she's around others, but when alone you can see she's starting to question and even panic a bit over what she's being dragged into.

Fuck, why couldn't we have gotten this out of the other series...

When Andor asks “Who are you?”, it completes the tragedy of Syril’s story. Always someone who wanted to make a difference for good. Killed by the people (Rylanz) he was trying to protect, as the bad guy.

It’s nice seeing Mauler excited to talk about a show.

Syril was Lawful Neutral. From episode 1 we see he was obsessed with order and duty, his superiors just wanted to brush it under the carpet as just another Monday, but he became obsessed with justice for the two security guards Cassian killed.
At the same time his mother kept putting him down saying he would never achieve anything. His obsession led him eventually to an Imperial position, an Imperial girlfriend and promotion after promotion, he mattered, he was someone.

Then, in his final moments he realises those years of obsession, years of duty for what was 'right' were all a lie, he'd been lied to from the start by the very people he thought represent order and duty. And, the final words he hears before he dies are, 'who are you?' said by the very man he'd been hunting from the start.

Syril:  “ARE WE THE BADDIES?”

Syril has swiftly become one of my absolute favorite characters in all of Star Wars. He's literally just a guy, trying to do the right thing for the wrong side but he doesn't even know it and that's so human. And little does he know, he'll play a huge part in the birth of the rebellion and the Galaxy won't even remember his name

I don't know which is more satisfying - Andor itself or the absolute appreciation the panel has for the show in their discussion of it.

"You didn't mind the promotions" made him realise his "success" and promotion into the director position was actually part of the plan, nothing was because of his own good work. Ego-death. His numbness during the shootout is that of a man losing his will to live.

Borderline jarring but also pleasant to hear you guys speaking positively about modern Star Wars

Syrill was a fascinating character.. When he finally realized he was nobody, I immediately felt the Shakespearean arc...
