I think with the Eevee friendship evolution complaint it really comes down to how limited stab moves are for the eeveelutions. If you miss out on a stab move because you couldn't friendship level quick enough it actively makes your experience worse. I think it becomes a lot less of a complaint once the evolution moves are introduced because now you don't miss out on having a stab move no matter how long it takes

I've done a bit of looking into the BDSP situation
and it is a TRAGIC story
Apparently the Dev Studio had plans equal to (if not greater than) ORAS, but that would take them 2–3 years, Suddenly Nintendo & The Pokémon Co wanted it done in time for the anniversary year (that they originally had NOTHING planned for)
So the devs were informed that BDSP was going to be released in November a few WEEKS before the February announcement
having their dev time cut from 3 years down to UNDER A YEAR absolutely obliterated every planned enhancement, and they BARELY got them done in time, and then ONLY because they convinced Nintendo to give them the Dev Code for Diamond/Pearl which they copied/transferred directly into the BDSP and only changed the bare minimum to get it to work with the new systems
The only changes that they got in were ones they had already started working on before the schedule change but they didn't have time to fine tune any of it, leading to a bunch of jank

Glaceon got screwed so badly. I feel like Gen 9 is literally the only Gen where you can use it without issues.

As a side, almost off-topic, note about the eevee evolutions, I just really love that they all have the same base stat total— it gives the impression that they're all the same pokémon but their evolutional circumstance is what differentiates the portrayal. which, I mean, it literally is, but it makes me think of the Galapagos Finches Darwin studied for his research on evolution. all of the Galapagos finches technically trace back to the same species of finch, but their physical appearance evolved over a (LONG) period of time due to the differences in habitat and food sources, and the eevee evolutions clearly mimic that logic. It's just really cool that the Evolution pokémon is pretty much a direct reference to one of the more well known studies on real life evolution itself. Same bird, different appearance = same pokémon, different element.

As a casual player and a huge fan of Eeveelutions, it's fun to gain more insight about the usefulness of Eeveelutions beyond "that one is my favourite".

One nitpick I have with him judging black and white 2 is that you can get all 3 evolution stones (water, fire and thunder) right before the 4th gym by doing the battle subway, each completion gives you 1BP to use that and the stones are 3bp each that means you can use Vaporeon Jolteon and Flareon before you even beat the 4th gym.

Umbreon is my fav and I often use it in playthroughs. But I use it as a support and/or with stall tactics

“Gen one was the closest we had to a crit build” jokes on you kip. I chose sprigatito and exclusively used flower trick >:3

To be fair, waiting until Vast Pony Canyon wouldn't matter if it wasn't Charjabug specifically. Not that I don't adore the buggabus, but literally it's kind of mid at best, and the fourth Island is brutal for a mid stage bug.

Another argument for Jolteon in Gen 1 is bug (pin missile) is super effective against poison (only in gen 1) which gives wins against Koga and Agatha

@odakidakida9193 5 months ago

It's just strange that Umbreon is ironically one of first pokemon on type known for being "glass cannon"

I think the location based evolutions could be nice for lore/atmosphere. But I think it should be optional. An mossy rock could be available somewhere, and an eevee could evolve into leafeon when it's leveling up nearby, but I think the player should also have the option to use an elemental stone whenever they want. This could be a nice compremise between having a leafeon now but using a resource that is limited at the beginning, instead of getting a free evolution later on.

Pokemon crit build exist, but they are built based on synergy with a pokemons ability.
Sniper: Power of critical-hit moves is tripled instead of doubled.
Super Luck: Raises the critical-hit ratio of moves by one level.

Have you watched his "best gift in every game" video? He references back to this one since Eevee is a gift in many games.

One crit build I like is getting a Murkrow with Super Luck and putting Scope Lens on it. Plus Honchkrow learns Night Slash as a Reminder move.

Vaporeon's Haze in Gen 7 is why I like using Topsy Turvy Malamar against the totems. It's even better because it reverses the stat boosts, not just removes them.

I feel ya Kip. It amazes me how even now, there are not many people in my Idaho area that play Pokémon, so I don't have anyone to trade with either. It sucks

Flareon and Glaceon should have had 110 base speed. Both of them hit VERY hard, but they also both only have 65 base speed, which means they are too slow to be used outside of Trick Room, while lacking the bulk to survive long enough to matter. They're also too fast to be actually great in Trick Room. They both could have been great if they had the speed to actually hit things.

@alexandercharizard3617 6 months ago

I like the location evolution, in theory. They add variety, so not everything is a stone or item you just use, but MandJTV is right, they are too specific and often far too late in the game, considering the Pokemon they help are not that powerful, for the most part. I think, they would word, if they're not a specific rock. Why is it not just any forest. Or any mountain. Kind of like how female Burmy evolve Wormadam. Also a Gen 4 introduction

30:24 Sylveon always needed to know a fairy type move to evolve, they just changed the requirement from affection to friendship after gen 6. So if you want a umbreon or espeon you have to make sure NOT to teach it baby doll eyes or it will evolve into sylveon.
