60 year old combat veteran here. This song and video brings me to tears every time I see or hear it. Powerful.

Imagine being a Metallica superfan in the 80's as a teen. But you've only ever seen pictures. A few little clips of them live if you were lucky. And then BOOM! They release this as their first EVER music video. It blew many minds.

Can't see, can't feel, can't hear, speak, taste, any of the senses, but you're alive. I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy

The best heavy metal song ever written and played.

"One" by Metallica tells the harrowing story of a World War I soldier who is severely wounded by a landmine. Stripped of his limbs, sight, hearing, and ability to speak, he remains fully conscious—trapped as a prisoner in his own body, wishing for death. the soldier ultimately communicates with hospital staff by tapping his head against his pillow to spell "S.O.S." and "Kill me" in Morse code... in case anyone was wondering/didn't know

One will always be the greatest metal masterpiece...at least to me. It's so emotional, aggressive, and so frickin powerful. You're quite literally put into the shoes of a soldier. This song messes with you in a way i've never seen music do so.

Metallica’s first video and it shall never be beaten. By anyone.

MTV ignored the boys, and they achieved so much so quickly that they didn't need MTV to gain a following. So when they chose to do their first video, they made their mark.

As a UK armed forces veteran of 23 years service, this song hits so hard, both mentally and physically. Great band, great song. Every soldiers nightmare x 10. Every time you deploy on active service, you know it could be your or your colleagues last tour. To be killed, maimed, or end up like this poor soul in the video is always at the back of your mind. Metallica caught in one video an epic piece of art. The music, lyrics and film footage intertwine effortlessly and take you to a dark place. Bravo metallica. "TO ABSENT FRIENDS" 🍻
