There's a ton to unbox here. Without giving it all away, too many guys are seeing less than desirable images online following the release of the two new Garmin FFS transducers and we already know that people are unhappy with the Lowrance AT2 XL.

Well, all of that has to be touched on. Lowrance's software update puts them back in the game. And I drop some insight on you that you need to know when making your decision.

My AT2 XL is coming tomorrow. Been using an AT1 for 5 years so I'm really looking forward to it. All my infrastructure is already Lowrance so it makes a bit more sense to go with AT2 XL.

Though that was a very informative video and I watched the whole thing. Raised a lot of interesting points that I feel a lot of people need to hear.

I fish st Clair like you do the lakes in New York and I have noticed a serious increase in the level of pressure the fish have gotten. And I also agree it’s all. Boat pressure they hear the wave slap, our trolling motors, our electronics and us on the boat. I use to catch em at 40-50 ft no problem now I gotta get hit em at 70-80 ft and throw at a lot of fish to get a bite before it wasn’t that way. More ppl fishing and using ffs these fish have gotten smart to boats around them and correlate that boat to being caught.

I'd initially ordered a 42hd, I switched it to the 44 last week and got it today. I fish long range smallies so I knew I was making the right choice after the first few reports and videos came out.

I think the biggest problem is people using the same settings they used on the 34. I think you'll have to use totally different settings to fine tune the unit.

Great to hear an unbiased opinion.. Theres Garmin users trolling at2 users all over the internet, its very hard to explain to someone that just spend thousands on equipment that Lowrance at2 out of the box has way better fwd image, and even the perspective works amazing in the shallows.

The bait wouldn’t not scale differently from the 42 to the 44. The size would be the same. However the 44 may give you a larger bloom around the bait making it appear larger. On an 18” NBT pro 4k screen with a 6” minnow both 42 and 44 would scale the bait to about 0.09” or 2.2mm. You would be filling roughly 21 pixels. Compared to 10.7 pixels with an 8616.

I believe running the lvs42 with a Garmin 9XXX unit will be the best option. If your trying to hit fish at 120’ then yes the 44. But at that distance you better be just as dialed in with finding your bait with the 42 as you are with the 44. At 120’ your beam width is 42 feet. And at 120 will be able to get a hot enough return to know the fish is at the center of the beam? 2deg error in your cast is 4 feet. 5deg is 10 feet.

I have a question can you run the LVS42 and the LVS44 I have a GARMIN FORCE PRO 50” Tolling motor with a GARMIN SPY POLE with the GT360 transducer will it work for me 🤔🤔

Great info. Thank you. for kids fishing junior tournaments do you still think the 44? We are mostly bank fishing and fishing points and walls here in the west and we’re leaning. Towards the 42. We have a 34. Which one would be better for throwing ur bin style baits? 42? Thanks

Even in my stained waters, distance is more key than detail in my 4yrs experience and AT2 is still one of the best over 100'. The guys that upgraded to XL are pretty disappointed. For crappie it's great. But I've watched big bass leave a spot when I got within 80'

5:15 Snorkle/diver here. Have you ever swam under a boat that had sonar on. As a human and with marginal hearing sonar is LOUD - fish absolute hear/feel getting pinged. And as you are suggesting, they might remember too.

man idk, it is all mental. Your thinking more people want the 42HD but its the opposite, everything I have seen is the 44 bass guys are going with. What I think you'll see is the 42HD blows up because of the definition, you said brush or timber -- you forgot about rock and grass! the separation is INSANE! I am getting both and will do my own testing to see what is up! Its hard to make these statements without having serious time on the water, I get you can sit here and talk about it but we need more time on the water!
