Fantano was extremely brave dropping the Imagine Dragons bomb in front of a bunch of rabid ST fans

I'm gonna call Sleep Token "experimental imaginecore" from now on.

the moral of the story: music will always be subjective

“If I don’t like a song, I don’t want it to be 8 minutes.”

Ima-djent Dragons

I can now not unthink that Sleep Token is actually the Imagine Dragons of metal.... Dammit

@douglassmithe9799 3 years ago

If I heard Fantano's description of The Summoning before hearing the actual song, I'd imagine a song that sounds completely different to the actual Summoning song.

"Y'all know this is just my opinion, right?" Is the most important part of theneedledrop that many people tend to forget. It sits there in the description of every review for a reason.

@xinxu4456 3 years ago

I like how nik can include his perspective and opinions so well without actually dissing fantano. He can take what fantano says and break it up into what he agrees with and wants to question but it’s respectable

@greygodchris2974 3 years ago

He literally complained about how it's super calculated, then proceeds to say it's too chaotic.

@alexziegler465 3 years ago

As someone who can't understand the hype, fantano really described what doesn't work about them for me

0:24 “and maybe the most complementary thing I can say about sleep token is that they are certainly a band”

@bsievwiwvwjw7053 3 years ago

“Sleep token sounds like imagine dragons” is certainly one of the takes of all time

@SleepToken29 3 years ago

The obvious reason which he held onto almost the very end is that he isn't into the vocals. If you don't like them, then you won't probably like any of their records since it's the main driving force

Yep. Fantano is definitely a guy with opinions. Yessiree, he sure does think some things about music

I too hear Imagine Dragons specifically on Chokehold (and I do not like ID) but then I hear Tool in the beginning vocal section of The Summoning, then later in the album I hear Evernescencsece and even Sevendust on Apparition… and Vore is basically a love song to Deftones in almost every way. They are very much an amalgamation, and they do it very well and with their own twist - But it’s a great album (not without its dips) and it shows growth. I’m a fan.

That's why I love Nik. Very adequate comments, he is both subjective and objective and honest

@tyler951 3 years ago

The best 2/10 record I’ve ever had the pleasure of listening to.

@stringjiggler 3 years ago

Let's remember that EVERYTHING IS SUBJECTIVE IN MUSIC. if he doesn't like it, don't hate him. Same thing with us, if we don't like something he likes, don't attack him. We have different tastes and that is all
