We almost skipped this city, but it turned out to be one of the most relaxing places we visited in Malaysia.

Looks like a great little town to me. Spending time just eating and chilling, definitely worth the side trip. Bus looked pretty nice as well.

muar is a very small place, growing up in the 1980s my family would drive up from Singapore to Melaka annually to meet relatives and cousins and this was long before they built the N-S highway and everybody driving up or down have to go thru gauntlet of all the tiny little towns of msia on mostly 2 lane roads so you can imagine the crazy ride then at batu pahat and before big muar bridge often it would jam heavily here especially during the rainy seasons the roads would flood and some inexperienced driver would stall their car in the knee deep water and traffic would come to a standstill :face-blue-smiling: muar does have redeeming charms and some good food but not sure whether still around, I remember my dad once brought all the cousins 9 kids crammed into 2 cars drove down to muar for a big satay eat out (stick skewered grilled meats w peanut sauce) at an indian muslim coffee shop in those days it was like a buffet style you just sat down and they would just keep bringing you plate after plate of satay non-stop and when you are done they would just count up the used color marked sticks costing between 10 sen 15 sen I remember that day between us cousins we cleared over 300 sticks of satay - later in the car my dad was smiling when he muttered that he couldn't believe it was super cheap. :face-purple-crying:

Perhaps one pot the more quiet places you've been to. Not bad though, decent food and quite cheap.

Muar is my hometown. It was voted as cleanest city in South East Asia. You guys should try a snack called "mee siput"(snails noodles).It is made from dried yellow noodles coiled in round shape resembling back of a snails. They fried it and eat with sambal. You can get it only in Muar.

Cantonese can be spoken in Malaysia.

By any chance u guys are coming to Kuantan, Pahang? It's my hometown haha
