MUAR is a town located in Johor, the southernmost state of Malaysia, halfway between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. It can be a good pit stop for food if you're traveling between the two destinations, but we decided to spend a night.
How to get to Muar:
We drove from Kuala Lumpur to Muar. If the traffic is good, it should take you between 2 - 3 hours to get there from either Singapore or Kuala Lumpur. But there should be express coaches as well from major cities like Kuala Lumpur and Johor Bahru.
How to get around in Muar:
Easiest way to get around in Muar is by car or Grab, but if you stay in a hotel that is centrally-located, it's easy enough to explore on foot.
Where to stay in Muar:
We stayed at Muarar 99 Hotel (RM111/night) right in the city center, close to most of the major attractions and restaurants. Click here to BOOK NOW: https://booking.tp.st/hVItrWpL
Things to eat in Muar:
Sup gearbox (Muar Soup House): soup made of cow's or goat's knee joints
Rojak paru (Muar Soup House): a dish consisting of fried tofu, dough fritters, cucumber, lettuce, and cow lung, topped with sweet-potato-and-peanut sauce
Oyster omelet: fried egg with fat, juicy oysters
Otak-otak: ground fish mixed with spices and wrapped in banana leaf
Mee bandung (Restoran Mee Bandung Abu Bakar Hanipah): yellow noodles cooked in a thick sweet & spicy shrimp sauce, topped with a hard-boiled egg, shrimps, fish cakes, and vegetables

He is my most familiar stranger because I knew him since my childhood days, he used to sell coffee powder on a van. He grinded coffee beans on the spot, the aromatic smell can reach my house from far distance, my mum then knew the coffee van was coming.
