Slavic Reaction to BAND OF BROTHERS Ep. 1-2 - FIRST TIME WATCHING - Movie Reaction

Today I’m watching Band of Brothers Episodes 1–2 for the very first time — and this already feels very different from a typical war story.

I expected action and battles…
Instead I got:

🪖 Soldiers before they become soldiers
🧠 Training that breaks people down to rebuild them
🤝 Bonds forming under pressure
😳 And the realization that this is just the beginning

These episodes deliver:

🔥 A grounded and human start to a war story
🧠 Focus on the people, not just the conflict
🎭 Real emotions instead of hero moments
💥 Tension that builds before the first real battle even begins

So what is this? A war series? A historical drama?
No, my friend… it’s a story about ordinary people thrown into extraordinary circumstances, and how they become something more together.

Stick around for first impressions, reactions to the training, Slavic perspective on WWII stories, and my honest first-time reaction to the beginning of one of the most respected war series ever made.

This is considered one of the most accurate and true to life dramatizations of WW2. The effort this show went to in order to do that is inspiring.

@23:48, per military custom, the junior ranking person salutes the senior ranking person and the senior ranking person returns the salute. Captain Sobel not returning Lieutenant Winter’s salute was a sign of disrespect.

Its worth mentioning that the only trace of lieutenant meehan they ever found was over 40 years later in 1987 when a french farmer working his fields found his dogtags stuck in the branches of a tree where they had been since his plane exploded and dropped them there on dday

The coolest thing about this series is the actual soldiers recalling the events.

Guarnere’s brother Henry, was a medic and was killed in the battle of Monte Cassino, Italy. Also , Malarkey and the German /American POW actually worked across the street from each other. The show runners felt that the audience wouldn’t believe that, so they changed the distance to 100 miles

It is sad to see how sad the old veterans from Easy Company (and all other veterans too) are when they talk about the war from decades ago. The pain never left them. This is their story, so the actors are demonstrating what actually happened, or close to it.

Wow. You say you're not clear on the history, or the language, but you are one of the best reactors I've ever seen on this.

My dad was 1st wave in on Utah Beach. He once told me he prayed to make it thru the first day because if he did, he just may survive and make it home.

I love how fast you identified the mission. They say Normandy. They say Utah. And you knew right away -- "Overlord". Impressive.

Just want say how much I admire your reactions. I've watched enough of them now to appreciate how serious you are about understanding the scenes and characters. You are without question a smart young lady. Its a joy to watch you as you figure things out. I'm looking forward to following you through your Band of Brothers journey.

It's worthwhile watching the Band of Brothers Documentary: We Stand Alone at the end, some consider it the unofficial 11th episode.

The show is based on the book of the same name, which was based on the interviews with the real members of the E company, who you see in the beginning of the episodes.

The people talking at the beginning are the people portrayed in the series. Winters, Garnere, Malarkey etc.. Based on the book Band of Brothers by Stephen Ambrose. The interviews are very emotional. Winters is an excellent study of good leadership.

The reason you see such a high level of command and direction detail is because the airborne were an elite unit, basically special forces. They had a lot tougher training and weeded out a lot of recruits that were only in it for the increased pay. They needed men who could think not just in terms of force on force with defined fronts, they needed resourceful men that could think under the pressure of not having sustained supplies and being surrounded.

To me BAND OF BROTHERS is the single greatest series ever created of any genre. Everything about it is phenomenal. By the end I was so invested in the story, the historic events, the characters and what they went through. It did a good job of honoring their sacrifice and showing what it was truly like a lot of the time. The events of Easy Company are pretty historically accurate too. Also its crazy how many actors that became more famous later on were in this.

53:10 Winters won the Distinguished Service Cross, the second-highest award to be awarded to members of the United States Army!

Currahee Mountain, located in Toccoa, Georgia, is a 1,735-foot peak famous as the WWII training site for the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment (Easy Company, "Band of Brothers") The name is derived from the Cherokee word for "stands alone".

Epidsode 2 during the capturing of the guns has one of the best sound designs I can think of. It really makes it seem like you're there.

This series is close to my heart. I was with the 1st of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, from 1975-1977. Even then, and still do now, we wore the Ace of Spades emblem on the sides of out helmet.
Currahee! Not returning Lt. Winter's salute was a breech of military curtesy. Keep that in mind, it comes back later on in the series. FYI, the men of Easy Company recognized that Sobel trained them well, he was just a terrible combat leader. He was invited to the unit's reunions after the war, but never came.
Also, the paratroopers had no way of keeping prisoners, or sending them back to a collection point. It was either let them go or execute them until the invasion was successful and invasion soldiers linked up with the paratroopers.
