Today I took my brand new Altra Olympus 6 hiking boots out for their first real test — a full hike up Fan Fawr in the stunning Brecon Beacons National Park. I wanted to see how these trail running-inspired hiking boots handled steep climbs, rocky paths, and wet, muddy trails. Spoiler: they definitely surprised me!

That’s a gorgeous sequence of shots! 😍🤩 smashing filming. Just bought a pair of GTX, and a pair of Lone Peaks for the hot weather. I’ll let ya know how I get on. Also trying a irst pair of Lemms for the first time, to see which I take to.

I recently consigned a pair of Altra Olympus 6 boots to the dustbin, after just 8 months of use. The reasons - one of the leather uppers split where your toes naturally bend. I could have understood if I had been walking up and down the Cairngorms for 8 months but no, just normal gravel and tarmac paths approx 10 miles one or twice a week. So after complaining to Altra and sending numerous photos, they refused to give me my money back or a replacement pair of boots.They just offered 10% off a new pair of boots at full price! So, I reluctantly took this on the chin and bonded the split leather together then carried on using them. I was then caught in a deluge and had no option but to carry on. When they were thoroughly soaked the boots began to squeak very loudly. No worries I thought, as soon as they dry out, the noise will simply go away. It didn't, even after being dried naturally for three weeks. So, I eventually gave up on them. What a waste of money. Yes, once broken in, they are comfortable but my god they are way too hot and they are not waterproof, despite what Altra claim. My advice is don't waste your money because they will let you down well before you get a lot of use out of them. Just look at the negative reviews on Amazon before you hand over your funds. I wish I had ☹️.

Are these boots any good in the summer? I’ve heard they’re rather warm/not breathable.

Thanks for the video, it was very useful! I'm just starting to use the Altra gtx. it bothers me by
how the leather creases severely. But for me on the big toe side. does it bother you? Finally, how many miles have you hiked in the Altra boots? is there a chance that my altra boots "break in"?

My last Salomon was size 10 UK / 10.5 US. After 5 years, it started feeling tight and ended up costing me 2 toenails and 7 blisters 😅
I’m now looking to try the Altra Olympus 6 Hike Mid GTX. What size would you recommend based on my previous fit?
