BANJARMAAINPOST.CO.ID - Ahmad Saudi's story describes the tense moments when the KM Virgo Transport 8 listed and eventually sank in the Java Sea. He was asleep in a passenger seat when the atmosphere suddenly turned to panic. People ran, and within minutes the ship completely listed without warning.
Ahmad tried to survive by clinging to the window, before finally moving to the top of the ship. He waited until he felt the ship was about to capsize, then jumped into a rubber boat that appeared to be his only hope.
But salvation didn't come immediately. For three hours, the boat he was on was battered by large waves and strong winds, making the situation even more dire.
In his experience, Ahmad saw many passengers still in economy-class rooms when the ship listed. Most women and children were believed to be trapped, while male passengers outside the rooms were quicker to escape.
The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. Although he managed to get out, Ahmad witnessed how quickly the ship lost its balance without any alarm or warning.
Meanwhile, the number of victims who have arrived in Banjarmasin is 86 safe, with one fatality.
The MV Haida was one of the rescue ships that arrived at Trisakti Port in Banjarmasin, carrying 69 survivors, on Sunday (September 13) at 6:00 PM WITA. At dawn on Monday (September 14), the KN SAR Laksmana 241 arrived at Trisakti with one survivor. About an hour later, the TB Mahau IX arrived with 16 victims who had been evacuated from the capsizing incident of the KM Virgo Transport 8. (Banjarmasinpost.co.id/Saifurrahman)
