This week's video is a little different.

As I continue my journey north through Montana on my way toward Alaska, I spend a day doing the regular van life stuff—working out, showering, washing the van, and making my way from a campsite near Butte to a quiet spot outside Helena.

But this video isn't really about the adventure this time.

This month marks two years of living full-time in my van, and for the first time I'm sharing the story behind why I chose this lifestyle in the first place.

I honestly wasn't sure if I was going to publish this one. It's more personal than my usual videos, but felt it was time to share.

I understand your reluctance about baring your soul and possibly not publishing this video, but I'm glad you did. I also appreciate you speaking about your faith and how it has pulled you into this lifestyle. It's not and easy thing to tell the things you've shared but I believe you're making a difference in a lot of people's lives and we're all the better for it. I lost my relationship 2 years ago, she was my adventure buddy. Finding that sense of adventure by yourself is such a huge win, I’m still trying to enjoy sunsets without wishing she was here. It’s hard but we’re stronger, keep being an inspiration!

Respect brother. Army guy here that was married my entire life then that all changed. I've been living in my rv for 2 years and traveling and working here and there. Honestly its been great and shows you how to enjoy live with the least amount of stress and enjoy the best parts of this country. Im in Montana currently too.

Garret, thank you for your honesty and openness to talk about things that are very private. Sitting in an apartment all day long, every day can either cause mental health issues or encourage your to get out. So glad you listened to God and His desire fo you to climb you mountain. We all have stories. I was an "end-of-the-road-er" in Fairbanks Alaska: those who kept driving away from whatever it was until we ran out of pavement. At one point, I repossessed cars in the Lower 48 for the bank and drove them back for sale, so I know the road quite well. I recommend enjoying the hospitality in Ft. St. John, BC , unless you take the other route, in which case the lodge at Bell II is a smart place to take a break as it makes Montana look absolutely urban as you head further north from there.

Wait until its 105 where you are. Head to Cooke City, through the Beartooth Valley. Highest City in Montana. Oh, and we no longer share finding spots on apps...causing overcrowding. After 5 years on the road so many more bad apples trashing places
