You convinced me on the prism tool idea.

Thanks man for the tutorial.

Muchas gracias

Thank you for your calm, concise and informative video. I bought a 1978 Ramirez Estudio classical guitar that had had a new fingerboard and frets fitted (a fantastic job), but for whatever reason the work had not been finished. I enjoy doing my own guitar tech and luthiery work (almost as much as playing guitar) so decided to attempt the crowning and dressing of the files myself. I started with angled bevel files and dressing files as the ends had been left protruding and rough. They worked great. But I really didn’t get on with concave files for crowning so I dug out cheap needle files from my toolboxes (including triangular files) and found I could shape the files better by eyeballing the work with them than trusting to a concave file. That discovery - plus videos like yours - gave me the confidence to move to a triangular file made, used and sold by a local guitar building businesses. With each fret I got a better and better result. I know starting with such a good guitar was crazy, but I don’t regret my decision. Now I will also crown my frets next time I change strings on my other guitars. And I will buy a neck to practise re-fretting, ready for the day I need to do that.
Thanks again.

I have used a lot of files on a lot of things, so when I saw the music nomand crowning file with safe zone, it was the exact one I was thinking about  making before I found it, since I am also a toolmaker, its a bit pricey but after I was done fast and easy I was totally sold on it, great product

Thank you. I use the three corner file anf follow your method pretty close but the prism sander is a terrific idea.  30 years doing this and for the life of me, I don't know why it hadn't occurred to me before! I normally mask my neck because I like to keep both hands free to do the crowning and polishing but if I do use the steel guard, I often secure it in place with an elastic band running under the neck and looped over each end of the guard.

Greetings from Southampton. I had great luck with fret erasers, really fine sandpaper and Autosol. But my frets weren't worn either. I was just taking out scratches. Thanks for posting. It's really surprising how much better you can get an inexpensive guitar playing with a little fret polishing. Take care.

Great results, but very time consuming as you point out, especially over a full neck of 21-24 frets eek! Years ago I went down the rabbit hole in pursuit of the perfect mirror shined frets for my customers. I was spending more time on that part of every job, than any other part of the setup AND the customers never really noticed or commented on the difference (sob). Of course, getting a great crown is super important and currently my favourite tool is the Music Nomad diamond S file with the safe center line. I can now crown an entire neck pretty darn fast and accurately but - like yourself - I've been doing this for a lonnnng time on thousands of guitars, so your advice to take it slow and get your feel for the job is perfect advice for anyone starting out 👍 When it comes to polishing these days, I use a mix of low grit fret rubbers to remove the deeper scratches and, like yourself, either micro mesh or superfine wire wool to polish up. Good video and super calm pace to your voice and advice - hope your channel picks up and gets more subs 😎

Looks like a Dean Vendetta XM with a modified (replaced) bridge, or maybe it's their next step up model. Some guy gave me the guitar and amp setup for free during COVID. Did somebody rout out the string through hole to put in that tremolo bridge? Cheap guitar but I love that neck. I'm replacing all the black plastic cheesy cheap parts with gold for esthetic purposes. picture that guitar with gold hardware. I might add a pickguard, The knubs will be gold with Abalone tops. Not a fan of the satin finish so I buffed it out to a gloss. Still searching for some gold tuning pegs. I'm the King of cheap to a certain extent. Thanks for the tips.

Handling steel wool with your bare hand? Lucky you don't get small steel pieces in your skin. Good video, though. Very informative.

oi.... just tape the fretboard on each side of the fret! Those fret guards are BS!!!  lol
