"That would require me to go outside and I don't wanna go outside"
Ma'am......SAME

The HBO opening reminds me of the Regal Cinemas rollercoaster opening they always do in the theater before the movie begins.
Sure, it's pointless and maybe a little too long, but it makes the movie feel more like a grand presentation or a huge event. Like, "Come, and let us take you on an incredible, amazing adventure."

13:11 we have skip buttons for that now, so I'd still like this back

44:48 "The youth are not being taught the sacred texts"

13:40 You're too TikTok-brained for your own good. 🤣

Back then, Skip It was always my favorite weapon.

That bit in the middle used to be where his videos would cut to an ad (before he started doing his own ads), and he'd oftentimes do a gag to transition to the break. This one didn't go over too well, though, because for many people, myself included, it cut to an ad for the United States Army. He'd actually reference this in a later review.

I think the HBO stinger also makes a lot more sense on the days of channel surfing and being from an Era before "on demand" programming.

Having a long/loud intro made sense when you needed to grab surfer's attention and buy time for people to come from other channels so that they don't miss the start of the movie.

37:25........a rare appearances from Southern Chelzor

12:54 got me SO hyped when the movie started back in the day. And there wasn't any wasting time in a time slot because back in the day, there were no commercials, no set time slots, they played the movie, played 3 minutes of advertising what other movies were showing when, then play another movie. As long as one movie started at 8pm Eastern, they didn't care. They'd add extra promos in the middle of the night to balance it out. It was glorious.

Theres a documentary about the HBO feature presentation logo that shows the amount of practical effects, including stop motion animation, the HBO starship being made from brass and chrome plated, and making several model cities to sell the effect even more.

13:30 I genuinely love the long bumpers. The speed of short attention span stuff tenderizes my brain. I didn't even notice until I watched an actual movie from the 80s the other day and it's just such a breath of fresh air.
So yeah, I'll take a bumper that's literally just 1 minute long as opposed to the screen constantly screaming at me in 3 second intervals.

13:45 that was really only used on Friday and Saturday nights when a movie was premiering on the channel. It was to get you hyped that you were about to watch something that until now had only been in theaters. Imagining seeing that bumper right before the HBO premiere of The Terminator, you'd be so excited. You remember seeing this in theaters but your buddy got sick that week and this is the first time he seeing it.

24:12 Basically how Casper became a ghost.

47:27 YES! I always went to Movie Gallery over BlockBuster!

I had a Movie Gallery in my hometown as a kid… I miss it so much! 😭😭😭

39:30 The Nintendo commercial was only showed in Australia

Regarding the adults playing kids in that laser tag ad, I have a theory. I think that toy commercials cast people who are older than the toy's target demographic because kids like to feel more grown up than they actually are. So we often get teenagers in ads for toys aimed at 8-12yo's, and 8-12yo's in ads for toys aimed at 3-7yo's.

In the behind-the-scenes for this review, they show that they couldn't find a Skip-It in any stores nearby and they didn't have time to wait to have one delivered to them, so they just had to make something that would semi-decently pass as one.

23:15 That actually was a version of Creepy Crawlers that was edible. They were basically homemade gummy worms but in the shape of the crawlers. I remember the commercial with a kid eating one of those spiders. I never had one, but I did have a easy bake oven.
