Slight correction, both the MacBook Neo and Framework 12 have 16:10 aspect ratios. Framework gives you the illusion of a taller screen because of the bezels but they’re both the same

I would be very impressed if the Asahi devs can successfully port to the Neo. I want an iPhone 16 running Linux.

I understand them going with a touch screen on the Framework 12 for art students, but why then compromise the whole package with a display with only 70% sRGB coverage? Makes no sense to me... 🙁

70% sRGB is insane

Vertical integration vs. do it yourself efficiency. Economies of scale are a killer advantage.

70% sRGB in the Big 26 is criminal

That audio quality difference is just... holy sheet.

My wife has a Framework 12. She wanted to support the mission, and seems to like the device but she doesn't really use it much. I went with the Framework 16 late last year, thankfully right before the RAM prices went insane, and that thing slaps, in spite of its minor imperfections. For a smaller repair-friendly device, I pre-ordered a Braxtech OpenSlate Pro, which on paper was a far better value than the Framework 12. Hope to see you review it one day!

Good video on the comparison of these laptops Jeff.  I really REALLY like the mission of Framework laptops and PC's and love that they have "true blue" Linux support, but geez you really pay for all of that.  I also love the upgradeability  of the Framework laptops, that's really great!  
I really want to like the Framework Laptops alot, but they are SO much more expensive.  It's just hard to justify the 50% price premium over, say, an HP or Thinkpad Laptop and that's a real shame.
I'll be in the market in the near future for a replacement for my 10yr old HP Envy laptop, probably around Black Friday timeframe this year, and I'd really like the replacement to be a Framework 13 Laptop, but cost will probably dictate that I get another HP or a Thinkpad.  Oh well...

Fair assessment from your nephew - which pains me as I don't like the Apple lock-in but they've knocked it out the park with the Neo. BTW you should get him back for an update on how he's finding it, he was a good presenter 👍

Framework prices are crazy. The price of an empty laptop shell is more than a cheap laptop. If that doesn't go down, I'm going to have a hard time upgrading the board and selling the old one. Who's going to buy a last gen board AND a super expensive shell?

I didn't realize the Framework was meant to be a budget laptop. Isn't the whole idea of the Framework that it is open and modular? Apple has the advantage of massive scale so it doesn't surprise me that they can deliver a cheaper product that performs better.

The benefits from Apple's economies of scale are huge and a company like framework simply cannot compete on cost when apple prioritizes affordability.
