Microsoft is way ahead at using the power of AI to turn their OS into slop that nobody chooses on purpose.

I love how Ads are built right into the Windows OS! So convenient!

I’ve been with Mac’s since college. I remember a few years ago my former employer bought me a maxed out windows machine because they didn’t want me using my personal MacBook Pro for work. The windows machine crashed after a week of using it and had to be sent off for repair which caused me to go back to using my 5 year old MacBook Pro for photo editing… it was the confirmation I needed lol

If only macOS was as compatible as windows for gaming and engineering programs.
Most of the stuff I do for school and games I play don’t work on apple

Want a windows vs Linux comparison

Apple sells hardware, Microsoft sells you.

I have a Windows laptop because I have one major program that runs on Windows.  But when I wanted a new laptop, ideally with a 15" screen, I found that the MacBook Air M5 using Parallels Desktop would run my Windows program faster than it ran on my older Windows laptop.  So, I bought a MacBooks Air 15 and have been very happy with it and use Parallels desktop to run the important Windows program.

Windows User for the last 30 years, 10 years working in IT for Azure and Microsoft products, bought an MacBook m4 max a year a go. The start was a bit rough, but man... The build quality, the details in general and that the systems stays out of my way plus service and support if and when needed makes it another product completely. No regrets ! If only they would support more games or gaming in general i would change my gaming desktop in a heart-bit.

I still use a Win10 PC on the side for two features: 1) some old basic games 2) File-organisation: if I have 2 folders with files, some are the same, Windows will show me, which are the same, or the same name with different date/time and will let me choose which to keep. (I don't like using Cloud for my files, and sometimes I also handle files from other peoples PCs like my mother, so there is no way to avoid it) I haven't found a similar feature on Mac. I also don't like that it copies photos into an App and you have no idea, where on the disk they are stored. I know I can just drag them out of the App onto the Desktop, but that's like duplicating the photos. Photo duplication anyway seems to be an Apple feature, with regular backups of your Iphone.

I made the switch for laptops exclusively in 2022 for a M1 MacBook pro from 2021 and it's phenomenal. Doesn't even compare. It's fudjing amazing. It's still going very strong and it's quiet and has long battery life.

I started the transition to macOS in 2020 when the M1 Mac mini hit the market, although I had been playing around with Apple devices as a hobby for a while (e.g., upgrading a mid-2012 MacBook Pro and the 2013 Mac Pro).  I have a fairly extensive Apple ecosystem now, to which I just added a refurbished 13" M2 MacBook Air, but I still have a Windows desktop.  I keep it for those applications you referred to that will only run on Windows, and for taking full advantage of my Steam library.

Bought a new laptop a few years ago thinking I could do some basic video editing and music production on a basic level but after a while just gave up because NOTHING worked. I was buying codecs, that worked one time and then never again. Deep diving into forums and downloading amateur programs, completely insane. Then bought an Ipad and everything takes 5 seconds to set up. The laptop is just collecting dust.

I worked in IT/Data Analysis in companies that exclusively used M$ all my life, starting with Win 3.1. Retired now, every computer I own runs Linux. I have never had an Apple account, and I have deleted my M$ account. I could not be happier! No bloatware, no mandatory online accounts and tracking.  My system, my way :)

9:17 "And then, ofcourse, we have Linux."  LOL, at least we got a mention.   :penguin-blue-waving-tear:

Another thing about a Mac is Apple provides general purpose apps such as Pages that mean you don't have to install any other software unless you want to. If you do install 3rd party software, Macs don't pester you to set something as a default.

Started at a new job. The new Windows 11 installation freezed during its first update and had to be hard-resettet. Then it took 2 hours to finish the next update a day later and stuck at 100%. Today MS Teams and MS Outlook only worked after 3 consecutive restarts.

This is why I use linux at home.

Everything in this video about the problems with the Windows hardware ecosystem is dead-on. I was so fed up with it that I tried switching to a Macbook a couple years back after being a lifelong Windows user.

However, there was a work problem. I use a company-issued Dell business laptop every day for work. I use PowerToys and have all kinds of keyboard shortcuts and Windows productivity tricks hard-wired into my hands and brain. Switching to the mac after work was fun and liberating, but because I spend so many more hours using a Windows computer for work than the Macbook for personal use, I never really "got there" with the physical and mental muscle memory on the Mac. This made it slower for me to do things I wanted to do in my personal time. Fortunately I was able to give the Macbook to a family member who needed a new laptop.

I would love to switch to a Macbook full time, but like anyone who works in government, corporate, or higher-ed, it's all Windows all the time and that creates a lot of stickiness for Windows. That plus all the points mentioned in this video.

People don't generally choose Windows, it's usually the workplace or a software restriction so they are forced to use it. Josh has the right approach to buying advice for most people. Apple has to actually convince people to use their products and it shows!

I love the apple system, but as someone that has build windows programs I use windows because of the legacy and the freedom to do with my pc what i want

The only problem with PCs is... Microsoft.
