In August, American cattle ranchers started doing something they had never done
before: selling beef directly to strangers on TikTok. Four hundred dollars for a
box of steaks. Quarter beef. Half beef. Delivered.
They did it because the price they get for a live animal collapsed, and the four
companies that process eighty percent of American beef weren't going to fix it.
Then the comment sections filled up with one question, over and over:
Who did you vote for?
This video is what happened next. I went through 5,587 TikTok videos from
American farmers, ranchers and rural voters and pulled the fifteen clips that
show the whole fight — including the people who think everybody in it is wrong.
What's in here: a cattleman explaining why a $3,500 heifer gets sold in August.
The comment sections, read out loud. A farmer confirming on camera that the Blue
Dot Farms groups are real. A right-wing creator arguing that three seconds in a
voting booth shouldn't follow a man for four years. A progressive saying the
pile-on has gone too far and private equity buys the land when these farms fold.
And a cattle producer telling other cattle producers they're being hypocrites —
who then says the only thing he actually wants is a country-of-origin label.
One thing I want to be straight about: I'm not telling anyone where to buy meat.
This video reports a boycott. It doesn't run one. And no seller's business name,
handle or order form is readable anywhere in it — the fight is the story, not any
one family's farm.
