The engine of my car came alive before the city did. I left Gurdaspur behind, driving through silent streets that slowly gave way to the chaos of morning life. With every turn, the familiar disappeared, and the road began opening toward the unknown.
As I reached the highway, the first light of the day broke across the horizon—a beautiful sunrise that felt like the beginning of something bigger. The road carried me toward Jammu, where I crossed the J&K border and, with it, entered a completely different world.
Beyond Jammu, the landscape began to transform. Concrete gave way to mountains, highways disappeared into tunnels, and waterfalls appeared between valleys carved by time. Every few kilometres, the scenery changed, as if the Himalayas were slowly revealing themselves.
By the time I reached Srinagar, the journey had become more than a drive. I wandered through the city, photographed the people who call this place home, and watched everyday life unfold through my lens.
And then came the evening.
As the sun began to disappear behind the mountains, I stood beside Dal Lake and watched the last light reflect across its quiet waters. For a moment, the road, the distance, and the hours behind the wheel all felt worth it.
This was only the beginning.
Gurdaspur was where the journey started. Srinagar was where the mountains began. And beyond them lies Ladakh.
Episode 1 of HOW I SAW LADAKH — a journey into the road, the mountains, and everything waiting beyond the next curve.
