This bike trail ends three miles out in the middle of Lake Champlain, and the only way to finish it is by boat. The Island Line Trail is a 13-mile rail trail running from downtown Burlington, Vermont, out along a hand-built 1901 railroad causeway, to a 200-foot gap in the stone where the Local Motion Bike Ferry carries riders across open water to the Champlain Islands. It's regularly ranked Vermont's most popular multi-use trail and was inducted into the Rails-to-Trails Hall of Fame in 2010 — and once you ride it, it's easy to see why.
