"But still, it's cool."

And that sums up Conan the Destroyer.

I never knew til way later in life that it's Andre the Giant in the Dagoth costume fighting Arnold. There's a great picture of Andre and Wilt holding Arnold up off the ground.

Love the score of this movie done by Basil Poledouris one of the best composers ever if not the best ever!

These two Conan flicks form an unofficial trilogy together with Red Sonja (1985), about the warrior woman from the Conan comics, made by the same film producer. Brigitte Nielsen portrays Sonja while Schwarzenegger is Kalidor, a character who is Conan in most but name [due to rights issues], while Sandahl Bergman who was Valeria is a villain queen. The cheese is thiiick, but it has its moments, more in the vein of Conan the Destroyer than Conan the Barbarian but still. Schwarzenegger has told that he used to threaten his children with that they would have to watch the film if they did not behave.

Once the sacrifice wasn't completed, Dagoth became a monster.

Nice to see you reacting to this Conan sequel

The closest thing to a resolution is the passable Kull the Conqueror, which was originally intended as a Conan sequel.

This teenager loved the performance of miss Olivia d'Abo. :)

Few films feel like a real life version of a Dungeons and Dragons type campaign. This checks all the boxes. One for the 'kids' while I will always appreciate the first one - for the adults.

16:32 The original Conan stories and Lord of the Rings were two of the major inspirations for D&D

This sequel may be less brutal, due to the studio insistence upon being PG to get more families in seats, but it's still fun.  Even if it's less Conan than it should be.  It's even more like an RPG adventure than the first.

fun fact. the wizard in the glass castle was played by Pat Roach. He was a wrestler here in UK. He also lived next to me for a couple of years, Great guy 🙂

That battle with the mirrors monster always creeped me out!🫣

When this movie came out the D&D version being played was AD&D 1st edition. In that, Strength had a % roll called Bend Bars/Lift Gates for the party's muscle. When we saw the movie, we noticed that Conan succeeded both his rolls in the crypt and at the waterfall.

Fun facts: This was based on the story "The Jewel and the Horn" By Robert E Howard. There was a comic adaptation, it's quite good!
-The first movie was a hard "R" whereas this was a PG-13. They did this for a few reasons.1) the princess was under age and 2) the hopes of getting a larger audience.
-Arnold tried to get pro wrestler Tony Atlas the role of Bombatta but Tony partied too hearty that night and missed the audition. Arnold was pissed off with Tony for a good long time.

-A different actress played Valeria because Sandahl Bergman was unavailable.
-Andre the Giant played Dagoth but was uncredited.
-H.P. Lovecraft was a penpal of Howard's and suggested the Conan fight and kill and elder god. He suggest Dagon for that role. So Dagoth is a standin for Lovecraft's Dagon.
-Because the actress they hired was under age, they had to scrap a good amount of the original script. In the original version Conan made love to the princess and that was why Dagoth monstered out.
-In the books Zula... was a MAN!
-Grace Jones legit injured several stunt actors. The director threatened to fired her if she didn't stop.
-Because the first movie had Conan not saying a lot, Arnold asked that Conan be given more lines.
-The Snake masked henchman was played by Sven Ole Thorsen. He was the hammer man in the first movie. The snake mask is a call back to his previous character.
-The ice wizard was named "Thoth Amon", which was the real name of the bad guy from the first movie. "Thulsa Doom" was the name of a skull headed necromancer, from the Conan saga.
-The first movie was criticized for straying too far from the source. This movie got criticized for being too close!
-With the horn removed from the monster, Dagoth's connection to the material world is severed, thus leaving a mindless/shambling vessel behind. Conan dispatches it with ease!

I really enjoyed this movie but I do wish it was more heavy hitting and paced out like the fist film was. A lot of it feels like it takes place in one afternoon.
In my personal head canon, The thief and the amazon became a couple.

Worth noting: Old man Arnold is making a King Conan movie right now :popcorn-yellow-striped-smile:
There's also the first Red Sonja movie, starring Brigitte Nielsen. While not reprising their original roles, both Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sandahl Bergman (Valeria) are in it too. And the story that was supposed to happen in Conan III was later used for the movie Kull the Conquerer (with Kevin Sorbo & Tia Carrere).

The horned creature at the end of the movie was Andre the Giant in a latex suit. Also, the reason why Conan and the princess didn't engage in any hanky panky was because she was only 15 at the time of production.😅

Thank you so much for reacting to this. I actually liked this movie more than the first but no one ever reacts to it.

A third Conan movie has been in production limbo for the longest time but it seems like it might actually happen. Arnie himself gave an update on it just a couple months ago saying the project is finally moving along. I hope it is, I would love to see an older king Conan.

There was another Conan movie but it wasn't able to use the Conan name. It was called "Red Sonja" and Arnold played a character that looked and acted like Conan. And it was a minor part.
