I’m so excited for our Halloween wedding!!! Sorry Shooby he’s mine now!!!

13:16 fun fact: the Addams Family started out as a newspaper comic strip that poked fun of the typical depiction of the American family, including the "I hate my wife" trope.

Gomez & Morticia Addams are shown to be so in love with each other because it was so out of the ordinary for that to be shown in media

My sister's friend got married on Friday the 13th, beautiful gothic cathedral, everything red and black
Very cool

The shotgun shell might symbolize a "shotgun wedding", which is an old-fashioned term for a wedding made necessary because the bride is pregnant.

I've read one story where the groom had a sign that said "Help me!" on his back , and when the priest discovered it, he refused to finish the wedding ceremony, no matter how much the groom tried to explain that it was a joke and he wanted to get married. I think they had to go to pre-marital counselling and provide proof of that before he was willing to perform the ceremony for them.

(I don't know why the bride didn't leave his ass right there and thanked the priest for saving her the trouble of getting an annulment or a divorce.)

Fun fact: my dad's shoes said 'Help" on the bottom in white shoe polish... but he didn't write it. My mom's brother did it as a prank. Apparently my dad was furious {green flag W dad} and they are still married now 35 years later. Also, my mom's brother has cheated on his current wife multiple times and she forgives him and stays because 'god told her to'.

When my sister got married a few years ago, the groom's brother wanted me to interrupt the wedding to pull this prank to make it seem like the groom was a cheater. I refused. I seriously don't understand how many people are that tasteless and disrespectful over weddings.

As well as the "brides lives matter" sign taking the piss out of black lives matter it also feels very insensitive to domestic violence issues and the very real homicide rates

At my sister's wedding, her father-in-law made one of those "ha ha ball and chain you're stuck now" jokes during his speech and it was legit CRICKETS. The whole room was just dead silence and annoyed stares XD. I don't know why he thought ppl would find that funny, especially at a very non traditional (and Pokémon themed) wedding

Another layer on the "it's HER day" thing, is that women historically have had so very little that was just for us and was in our control, and the wedding was one of the very few things that was woman-centric.

A condom corsage could work really well for a drag outfit, I think.

Every collab with Roly flashes me back to that one high school friend I always got in trouble for giggling in the back of the classroom with, and it just absolutely makes my day. I was so happy to see this in my feed!

I love what roly just said about being lgbtq because I feel the same way about identifying as aromantic we really do get to be our true selves being queer is a blessing

The last day of freedom BS is also the toxic idea that 'no matter what i do, now we are married you can't leave, divorce only happens to other people etc'

So, I majored in history and one of the women from my program did, in fact, have 1940s themed wedding. Nothing about WWII, but the styles/fashion trends from back then were present. She even had her hair put into Victory curls. I thought it was pretty cool.

I met my husband at a Doctor Who group and both liked scfi in general. We found a place to buy small aliens in bulk, and put them in our wedding favors. My wedding's groom's cake was space aliens at a concert/booze-up with NASA astronauts. The band was "Sunny Spot and the Solar Flares." We got a little carried away, and it became a diorama next to the cake. The band was also aliens.

30:34 "Shotgun Wedding" is a wedding under the threat of being shot (with a shotgun) by the father of the bride ('cos she's pregnant). Now came to mean a fast wedding, without much planning and grand ceremony.

Re: the shotgun shell boutonnieres - As an American, I can testify that there are some people over here who do make hunting and guns their entire personality, to the point where you sometimes see it as a wedding theme. If you go looking for them, you'll find no shortage of pictures of camouflage-fabric wedding decorations and even wedding clothes, wedding parties posing with their guns, etc. It's just kind of eye-rolling and tacky to us, but I'm sure it looks pretty shocking to people from other countries.

I've been to a wedding on Halloween. Guests were invited to wear Halloween costumes, this was optional. The bridal shower was a pumpkin carving party and the pumpkins were used as decorations at the wedding, but gravestones might have been a bit far.

for me the thing with the guy who wrote help on his shoes is like... if I saw that the first thing I'd assume is probably that he ACTUALLY needed help and I'd be seriously concerned for his safety, not that it was a joke. There's like no world in which that's funny idk
