For ten years Ken believed red dirt meant gold, and he dug a great many empty holes because of it. The real story is that ground colour is a message about minerals and chemistry, and a few colours carry a message worth reading.
In this video Ken walks through seven colours of soil and rock that geologists treat as clues, rusty red and orange, dull yellow, bleached pale zones, apple green, sooty black, carbon black and blue green, with the real minerals behind each one, how to tell a real clue from a false lead, and what to do on your next trip. A colour is a clue and never a proof, and none of these guarantees gold.
Ken Nugget Halloran has worked the same patch of dry country outside Kalgoorlie, Western Australia for fifty two years.

No find value is claimed for any viewer's own ground. Prospecting and detecting are subject to rules that vary by country and state, always check your local rules and permits. Stay away from old shafts and workings, and from strangely coloured water.
