Gold doesn't turn up in just any rock. It rides in a handful of specific hosts, and once you know which ones they are, a gravel bar stops being a pile of stones and starts being a map. In this video I go through every rock type that carries gold: the quartz that the veins run through, the iron-stained hosts and ironstones, the banded and altered rocks that sit close to a source, the conglomerates that have produced more gold than anything else on the planet, what each one looks like wet and dry, where in the rock the gold actually sits, and roughly what a piece of each is worth when you find one.
