When I was 15 I bought a Gibson LP deluxe 74 gold top from a guy in a local band for $800 dollars. His wife was having a baby and he needed money. He had bent one tuner and I replaced all of them with gold Schallers and a bronze tail piece. People have been giving me crap about doing that all my life. I bought it to play it, not to hang it on a wall or sell it. I’m 63 now and still play it today.

Nice to see that the Revstar got added to the wall

Thanks for the shoutout Phil! ❤🔥🤘🏻

$48.36 in 1966 is equal to $500 now. I think that’s what you were getting at.

I can afford any guitar I want, but I won’t spend more than $3k, anything more seems to just be nothing more than a flex. More than 3k you’re just pay for fancy woods and higher build quality sometimes. But not really better playing or sounding.

Phil you said it best about rescuing amps. I didn't realize it but I feel the same and can't let an amp just be ignored on the shelf of a store.

Giving away a TV is like trying to get someone to take on your mortgage.

It’s also worth mentioning that collectors help the used market tremendously. If you look at any popular brand of guitar, you can find barely played models that sell for less than half the price used. That only happens because collectors buy lots of guitars and the ones that don’t get played that much end up getting sold. If you’re a musician and you’re complaining about guitar prices, you are not looking at the used market.

The " collectors" to me means people who buy guitars as an investment and don't even play them; so of course that drives up the price for the people who want one to play

Lol, Jared put it best, dentist and lawyers.

My first real guitar was a 1967 Fender Mustang that I paid $300 ($1100 today). in 1981.  New guitars in 1981 cost $500 ($2000 today) to $900 ($3,300 today).  The Mustang was not a great guitar and it took me forever to sell it…. No one wanted a beat up old guitar back then.

Today I would buy a Player 2 or PRS SE for less than $1000 and have a great working new guitar.  Better new guitars cost less today and while Vintage guitars (used junk sometimes) are overpriced, it’s a buyers market

I have been able to sell 1x12 combo tube amps on consignment at local music stores. As long as they are under a grand.
But I see many larger amp-cabs of different makes still sitting unsold in those stores.
The real problem is that younger guitarists these days will purchase a modeler that costs b/t $500 and $800 before they would buy any amp. Unless they buy a Line 6 Catalyst or a Katana instead.

A couple of months ago I was thinking man I really want to get a Fender Deluxe Reverb reissue. But now my mind has been blowing and I'm thinking I'm going to go to the modeling route

PRS went up pretty damn high durning covid

i cannot comment, i am not a "real musician" but i like to cosplay as one

What was the amp?

About 6 years ago I got back into collecting guitars and bought several of my dream guitars. Later I realized that having them didn’t make me a better player or necessarily happier (simple lesson, I know). Sold like 80% of my collection at great prices, invested the money and kept my fav guitars. And happiness and playing time increased. I’ll still look at reverb from time to time but, honestly, the “gear head” days are done for me. With everything being so expensive, I would not pay more than $2800 for a fender custom shop these days. Just not worth it. Gibson customs are just out of the question for the value (not worth it). And I love made in Japan and Mexico fender guitars for the price point!

Why does anyone care what someone else has? If you get the sads because someone buys something and doesn't use it they you think they should perhaps they are not the issue.

Imagine having a time machine just to go back and buy all the killer guitars and then jump to the Future😮😂😊❤

When Musicians sell their instruments, they benefit from Collectors being willing to pay more.
So, there's a balance.
