Slipknot has lost a lot of members. But losing Joey Jordison and Paul Gray is the one the band never recovered from. This is the story of the two men who built Slipknot's sound — and what happened to them.

With Sid Wilson's departure now confirmed after nearly 30 years, following Chris Fehn in 2019 and Craig Jones and Jay Weinberg in 2023, Slipknot's classic lineup has almost entirely disappeared. But long before any of that, the band lost its number 1 and number 2.

Paul Gray was there before there was a band. He'd never touched a bass guitar until Slipknot formed. Joey Jordison started out on guitar and only sat behind a kit because his band's drummer couldn't keep up. Together they wrote most of the music, named the band, and created a sound nobody has successfully replaced. This video covers how they met, how they worked, Joey's legendary Download Festival stand-in for Metallica, Paul's death in May 2010, Joey's dismissal in 2013 and the
health condition behind it, and the legacy both men left on metal.
