"Thrifting is not shopping. It's hunting." Yes.

Your rule about imaging the item in three outfits before buying it is good advice.

I knew how to sew a button. I thought I could reduce the shoulders' width of an 80s blazer

A goth who makes orange look good. I have now seen it all.

absolutely do the brands video

Ok get ready. The worst thing I thrifted at 16 was a skirt made out of  draped  wind breaker fabric.I loved it. It was awful.  It was neon colored. Blue, orange, and  pink. It was 3 stacked panels.  It visually  traumatized my mother, my aunt and possibly my neighbors. It shocked my principal. No one knew how it even came into existence.  It was insane. I looked like a candy punk raver. ( Which was the intent)  10/10 if I could find a green and black and pink version of this horrendous skirt I'd make a bag out of it. It was loud. Visually and auditory. An absolute menace to society. Its only purpose was I guess to be a beach cover up. Mark my words. It was awful. Better as a beach bag. Or a tote. RIP. It made its way back home after I grew out of it and mother encouraged me to dispose of it. . 😂😂😂

I recently bought a ballgown with some loose beads that needs to be fixed. Will I ever go to a ball? No. Will I fix it? Probably also no.

There was once a burgundy ruffle hem dress on poshmark that I absolutely had to have no matter what. The seller disclosed that she was 5'7 and the dress went all the way down to her feet, and I am 5' and have absolutely no business buying dresses longer than 55", but I convinced myself I could just learn on the spot how to alter when it came in. The hem was so detailed that there was no shortening it from the bottom, and the waist where it met the skirt was some type of V, but I was convinced I could just cut carefully at the waist and shorten it that way. As you can imagine, the more I tried to alter it, the worse it became. So then I gave up and decided the bottom half would have to be a maxi skirt and the top a separate blouse, but due to the way I absolutely butchered the dress, it was a lost cause. The skirt part became a pillowcase, and I have a shred of that fabric in my sewing kit to remind me to never try to hem something from the MIDDLE of the dress ever again 😂

Old curtains or sheets for learning is the way to go. I made the mistake of buying "good" fabric for a dress pattern  I'd never made before, and well...😬

I am definitely an orphanage for fabric... And of antique china,,,, And silver-plated tea sets...

I love that orange dress on you. I think the pattern compliments your tattoos well

For us delightfully withering crones and bog witches, it can be so hard to embrace the new body that comes along with age. One trap I fall into is buying thrift items for the price and not for the fit; meaning comfort goes out the window. Nowadays one of my rules is to ask myself, will this leave me wanting to peel off my own skin before noon? Accepting more mature styling takes practice and transition time. Am I going to be wearing fishnets and leather in my elder bat era? Not a chance. So I give myself permission to spend that money on a silk blouse or drapey skirt instead.

Great. Now I must seek counseling for my theatrical storage problem.

As someone who dresses their corporeal form in overly large (100% cotton)  t-shirts and cried when they heard Treasure for the first time, the vibes here are just gentle enough to encourage me to dress daringly. You make clothes sound so fun.

Yes please, teach me your Vinted ways! I could use some inspiration as baby bat 🦇✨ The stupidest thing (for myself) I thrifted last year. It was a light blue and a light green blouse made of linnen. Oversized. Telling myself it was “coastal grandma chic”, great for hot weather, so it was a vibe and I could “make it work”. Found out I dislike the way 100% linnen wrinkles, I dislike ironing and I don’t want to cosplay as coastal grandma not living near a coast nor being a grandma. 🙈😂

I really love the 60's dress you are wearing, it's groovy! I would wear it with fishnets and my vintage black go-go boots 🖤Dark Flower Power! 🏵️

A video with the brands you look for and have personally would be incredibly helpful to those of us who are searching through what feels like a costume closet! I can't tell you how many times I've searched with the word "gothic" or something similar word and basically found pieces that appear to be costumes. As I've always said, I'm fashion challenged.

I thrifted a brown tie-strap dress that had darker brown stains all over it. I thought I could cover them with leaf embroidery. But the whole dress started falling apart, the stains were way too big and in hard spots. I loved the fit of the dress and it had pockets but after it ripped another hole, and the patches kept failing because the fabric wasn't strong enough, I'd had enough!

OMG! I never thought of using sweater for yarn! 🤯

This was the first video I've seen of yours and it was so incredibly helpful for purchasing clothing. Unfortunately my thrifting addiction also bleeds into tchotchkes, lamps, artwork, wood boxes, brass items, flower pots, etc., etc., forever. Not only have i decorated my home with 100% second hand items, but I also have a room literally FULL of treasures. Someone save me from myself.
