CB radio is what "wet my whistle" into the radio world.  If it weren't for CB I wouldn't be a ham today.  73

Cause Mama that's where the fun is

I was 10 years old. In my apartment complex parking lot. Talking to people on a handheld CB with a big old telescopic whip. Will always love CB.

If it's radio, I'm interested.

Been on the cb since the mid 70’s. It’s still king of the road for travel info!

For many of us, CB is our home.

yep, started CB in 68 and havnt stopped. Yes i`m a ham and have been for 30ish years. love both

Love Radio in general. I met really cool people on CB just like ham radio.

I an Amateur Extra and I still love CB.  It's unregulated for the most part, and it's fun!  Also, nothing beats CB for that local Road Info when you're traveling.  It also is great to keep in touch with unlicensed family members who want to talk on the radio.

I'm a General been a Ham for 17 Years and when I go to South Carolina to the Beach I never got Traffic Information on Ham Radio I do on CB Ch-19 I got in to CB in 1973 and never Gave it up I Love CB and Ham Radio and CB is still a Good Tool in Times of EMERGENCIES I'm with REACT we Monitor CB-19 two 2 meter Repeaters 70cm Repeater and one GMRS Repeater and it is Good to Monitor all Types of Communications not Just One and Happy July 4th and God Bless to all.

I'm an Extra, but I'm also a CBer, also a FRS user, also a LowFER, also a Marine Band user, also someone who plays with Free-Space laser communications. I even built a Low-Power FM stereo transmitter for sending FM out to the garden, and an AM broadcast transmitter with a range of about 30 feet so I could play oldtime radio shows through my antique radios, and I'm looking into sub-9 kHz RF communications, too. I built a tube CB kit when I was 13, and I've been involved in electromagnetic communications and with its hardware ever since.

When I first got involved with the 175 kHz LowFER band I invited my ham friends to come to the band and experiment along with me. Their reply, from each and every one of them was basically, "I can't do that. I'm a ham," as if they would be committing a federal crime by sending out an RF carrier on anything but a ham band. Their attitude flabbergasted me. I've read Part 97 cover to cover more than once, and it says no such thing. This self-imposed isolation and limitation never made any sense to me at all. Apparently it didn't make any sense to them either. When I asked them why they wouldn't operate on any band other than a ham band, none of them had a reason. They just said it would be better if they just stayed on the ham bands, though a couple said they didn't want to risk losing their ham licenses. I asked them how exactly that might happen. They replied that they didn't know. It all seemed to boil down to a fear of the unknown, the fear of freedom, of something new. They wanted walls, a cage to feel safe in. But Amateur Radio isn't some sort of marriage. It's not exclusive. Each of these other services has its own value, its own individual advantages and disadvantages, its own frequency range. There is no reason to put oneself in a cage and lock the door, declaring fealty to one radio service or another, to one band or another. It's all RF, and as for me I'm fascinated with RF, so I play with all of it. I follow all the rules of each band, and each service, but I don't limit the fun that I can have with RF. My ham license allows me to use all of the ham bands. But it doesn't keep me from using ANY other bands.

Licensed ham here. And a CBer. Agree with your reasons. I'm involved with EMCOMM and working on outreach to the CB community as well as organizing a local net for fun!

This is exactly why I do the Mars mod on all of my H.F. rigs

I grew up during the heyday of CB in the 70s. It briefly was a huge part of American culture. Miss those days.

I talk on CB/Freeband all time and I been licensed Ham for 25yrs. Yes during an emergency all your main local comms will be cb/gmrs.

CB is far more chill than ham is. I can go out and have fun yakking with guys without getting yelled at for being on an "emergency only" frequency.

Many many operators like you guys, started on a CB back in the day like myself..73 👋

I start with CB in the 70" and  made the ham licence   VY 73  DK3CH

Here's what gets me thinking.  CBers are the Kings of AM.

The ham bands have fun or entertaining frequencies too. Just have to know where to look. 😂
