Have you ever managed to follow along somehow up to Genesis, only to lose your way in Leviticus?

Tonight, the five books of the Pentateuch unfold before us as a single bridge connecting the Old and New Testaments.

The first promise that the offspring of the woman would crush the head of the serpent,

the ram sacrificed on Mount Moriah in place of the only son,

the blood of the lamb smeared on the doorposts on the night of Passover,

the manna in the wilderness, the rock, and the lifted-up bronze serpent,

and even Moses' final testament left on the plains of Moab.

All five books of the Pentateuch point to the one Christ.

The resurrected Jesus spoke on the road to Emmaus.

Beginning with the writings of Moses and all the prophets,

He explained in detail what was written about Himself in all the Scriptures.

Have you ever found the Pentateuch difficult?

Does the New Testament feel familiar, but the Old Testament feel distant?

The Pentateuch is not a heavy document of ancient religion,

but a bridge personally handed to us by the One.

I pray that the arm of the Eternal One will rest beneath our lives today.
