I built the Colnago Y1Rs completely differently than everyone else — here's the philosophy behind it and what I found after hundreds of miles in the saddle.
Most Y1Rs builds try to match Tadej's spec down to the bolts. This one doesn't. In this video I walk through the full build philosophy, every spec decision, and my first impressions after weeks of real-world riding — from coastal climbs to mountain passes to long days in the saddle.

Would you run 1x on a road bike? Let me know below. * Quick correction on pricing: The CC.Y01 cockpit is included in the $7,500 frameset price, not an additional $1,000 on top. Total frameset cost is $7,500, not $8,500 as stated in the video. *

Beautiful bike and great workmanlike build. The Y1RS seems to need some crazy choices to get it to a light weight.

While I love that bikes like the Y1RS and the Factor One exist, I think they age quicker than other “generic” designs.

My SL8 still looks as good to me as the day I bought it and the SL9 isn’t a huge move away from that.

I totally agree with your impression. Y1 has been my daily driver for about 6 months, and it handles everything from 200km/3000m ride to light gravel really well. I think it's more comfortable than my previous Tarmac SL7.

I have this exact bike (dark edition) with the 6.7’s. I considered 1x but honestly for me the jumps in gears was too much. Personally I don’t like climbing on it but I have a LAB71 SSE and it’s incredible up the ups so thats probably why i prefer it.

Definitely look into the Rocket mount for your garmin.

I was able to trade my Dogma F with dura ace straight up for a 26 Cervelo s5 with SRAM. Love it. Rides comfortably and I think I even like SRAM better than Shimano. The shifting is really nice and smooth. Very fluid.

I’m a huge Tadej fan though so it just feels wrong riding Jonas’s bike 🤣🤣🤣

It’s a cool bike, but I still think it’s kind of funny this has riser bars. That is probably why it’s as comfortable as it is.

I have the same frame and its a bike that impresses me quite a bit (vs. SL8, dogma F). Did you remove the silver ENVE decals from the 4.5 Pro's or did you cover them with a black ENVE decal? Hard to tell in the video. Cheers!
