I'm 62 and had great hair until age 58, when an extended period of stress + menopause began to dramatically deteriorate my hair. In the span of 2 years I lost so much volume, and the texture changed from fine but dense and silky, to very fine, low density, and frizzy. I was devastated. After consulting with a dermatologist and deciding against minoxidil, I purchased an iRestore Professional and began using it religiously. It took about a year but it definitely seemed to stave off further loss and helped a little with density. However, the texture and quality was still not great. However, I learned new styling techniques and products to deal with the new wave/curl/frizz pattern and that helped too. I figured I could live with it.
I then decided to start HRT for unrelated reasons (Osteopenia/bone loss) and......
WOW did it help with my hair!!! A year in and the texture has improved, a lot of the shine has returned and the density is better. It'll never be what it was premenopause, but it has most definitely improved the look and feel of my hair!
I'm not here to push HRT on women, but since Dr. Ellis didn't mention it here I figured I'd add that to the list of options. Obviously hair loss alone is not enough of a reason to take it. And that's not why I started. But the help to my hair is undeniable.

My ferritin was too low for years. As soon as I upped it to over 50, my hair started coming back!

My dermatologist is useless. I was referred for a consultation by the Primary Care doctor to see a dermatologist for my extreme hairloss. He didnt do anything. Didn’t even check my labs. Just told me to use minoxidil. Very difficult to find a good dermatologist to see

Having an extremely oily scalp caused my follicles to clog, leading to terrible hair fall. I was washing my hair twice a day! I switched to BIOONZ because it’s paraben-free and gentle. It completely regulated my scalp's oil production, and the hair fall stopped naturally. Scalp health really is everything.

I would encourage anyone with hair loss to start with some basic medical testing before they invest $$$ in hair loss treatments. I was asymptomatic Celiac disease for years and had no idea until a year ago when a spinal fracture showed upon a chest CT; within six months, I was also diagnosed with Hashimoto's. Now that I am gluten free and on proper medication for my thyroid plus working with a nutritionist, my hair fallout has slowed dramatically and kickstarted noticeable growth. Will it ever be like it was prior to menopause? No, but the shedding has slowed dramatically. You can throw everything at hair loss, but if you have something major systematic going on in your body, no serum or intervention will help until you identify and address any medical causes for hair loss.

i got a reference to a derm to talk about my hair loss. i called up the department at the hospital and the WHOLE department said they weren't taking patients for that condition 😂😂 well! i hecking tried!

PRP injections to the scalp are absolutely excruciating. Like medieval! I did 3 treatments spaced 4 (or 6) weeks apart. I saw no noticeable result.

The thing that helped me most and made hair grow in follicles I didn’t even know I had was spironolactone. I started a super low dose for hormonal acne (my skin was SO smooth pretty quickly after starting it, like not only did I not get pimples but my skin looked radiant), and hadn’t even realized that it would help with hair growth. After a couple of years or so I decided to grow my bangs out for my wedding and i realized my temples were filled in kind of similar to how Zendaya’s hair grows. It wasn’t as thick as hers but mostly I mean it filled in on my forehead. My mom’s hair grows like that (she’s mixed too) but I never thought mine could because normally my temples are pretty hairless and the hair that are there are baby fine. It really made my hair dense and the strands thicker. For example sometimes in the shower I’d think there were two hairs together but it was just one really thick strand. So wild because I normally have fineish strands. I had to stop taking spiro though because it was messing with my health. I was dizzy, fatigued, and now my blood pressure sits low in the normal range. So I recommend it but make sure your blood pressure is normal and if you start feeling bad, stop taking it. I lost all the hair I grew so I’m on my hair growth journey again but I just wanted to give my experience in case anyone is interested 😊

I think everyone should know topical minoxidil is deadly to cats! Why I won’t take it, because even if the residue gets on a pillowcase and your cat walks across it then grooms- it can kill them

Biotin made me think I had acne and ridiculously oily skin for years until I saw a random YouTuber in like 2016 say that it caused their acne. Lo and behold, no acne—just rosacea. Did you watch the PBS Frontline episode about supplements? It’s BAD

I would love a derm to release a minoxidil liquid that is formulated to reduce the greasy residue. I know the foal is more popular but I always found it to be so much greasier compared to the liquid, and that the liquid is so much easier to get directly on the scalp with the pipette.

I went through major hair loss last year. It got so bad that I would delay washing my hair because there would be hair all over the shower (even though I knew this was ridiculous).
I thought about it all day long.
In the end, it was a thyroid deficiency, so I would strongly advise people to get their thyroid checked.

I’ve had PRP in my gluteus medias tears and in my right and left shoulder. I’ve probably spent about 5,000 dollars. The results lasted about 6-7 months. In the end I had rotator cuff surgery and gluteus media’s surgery. I wanted to avoid both but didn’t happen. Find a good MD that does it and talk to actual people that have had it done in the scalp. I don’t regret it but it did set me back and I could have been better years earlier if I had the surgery.

I’m 64 yo, had 2 micro hair transplants (2007 and 2020), I have fine hair and after 2 pregnancies, I had lost quite a bit of hair. The transplant changed my life, literally. I take Funestaride since 2020 however MD doesn’t have proof it works for women but it sure works for men as my husband is taking funestaride for 20+ years now and it works (all his brothers have a crown hair style).
