They say "Never attribute to malice what can be explained by incompetence", but I fully believe that Drexel intends to just sell everything to make a ton of money

THANK YOU FOR REACTING TO THIS

The Academy of Natural Sciences museum is closed. On Sunday, Sept. 27, at 5 p.m., the closure cited financial strain and low visitor.

I SMELL BULLSHIT💔

EDIT: I should note its NOT over yet, the final decision hasn't been done. And apparently the William Penn Foundation stepped in with a generous lifeline offer to completely fund the museum's operating costs for at least another year.

fun fact this past june drexel recieved a 112 MILLION dollar donation. which is used to upgrade a bunch of stuff. but then 76 million of that goes to scholarships and university programming. you would think that university programming is part of the fucking museum that they own.... the president, merlo, even said that was the largest "gift" they have ever recieved.

My pet theory is that he wants the browny points of getting rid of the budget deficit but is not telling his investors that its gonna cost 10 years of funds that could  have run it to move the specimens.

The William Penn Foundation also offered Drexel a full year of funding for the Academy to give them time to find permanent funding, and Drexel refused them, so its very clear that the financial reasons for closing it are a smokescreen.

The video is a little late, since Drexel closed the public front of The Academy on the 27th, but thank you for watching. Fingers crossed this isn't over yet!

It does seem that we are hearing more and more about those in position of power becoming more brazenly open in their schemes and corruption. Is this because of their overconfidence, that they control the system enough to stop any punishment? Or is it because of modern-day internet allowing such schemes to be more easily seen and spread?

God I respect people that genuinely go out of their way to ACTUALLY share the video like this. You're AWESOME

It’s not a crime, but it’s so absolutely awful. Sure, maybe it isn’t making money… but so many private museums across the world fight that fight all the time, and they don’t close on a months fricking notice!

Already signed.
C'mon, guys, let's save this one!

They could relinquish control of the Academy, but then they don’t make any money.

Allow me to translate: The new president doesn't want to run a museum. He isn't interested in that part of it. He is interested in the one-of-a-kind, HIGHLY valuable to the affluent private collector, specimens the museum has however. This is why they're being moved in such a way to easily facilitate the loss of a portion of them.
EDIT: Lmao he had the same idea. I was thinking of what happened in France the past few years.

I'm with you. Either a very rich person wants the building, or a very rich person wants some specimens that will magically be "lost" in transit.

It's just infuriating to see such brazen abuse of power with very little ability to do anything about it, tbh. Hopefully the pressure generated does something to change their minds.

Man I'm trying to get my degree rn to become an entomologist and I still remember how this dream of mine started by me and my grandmother going to an insectarium and being captivated by all of it. Seeing these life changing places being treated like toys that a 5 year doesn't want anymore makes me feel disgusted

Ty for spreading the word

Thank you for reacting!!

Thank you so much for covering this dire situation, Phera. Every bit of this is so mustache-twirlingly evil and even though the closing date has passed, I hope we the people can get this moronic decision reversed.
