This case is shocking. Ted Bundy’s social status helped protect him and allowed him to keep killing. Because he was good-looking, well-spoken, and a law student, many people trusted him and underestimated the danger he posed. His story shows that evil doesn’t have one look or one form—it can hide behind respectability.
Carol, I’m 54 years old and I’ve studied serial killers, Bundy in particular, most of my life. I have so much respect for you…getting away from him that night, coming forward to speak about your experience with him, and I loved watching you point him out in court! Good for you…on every level!!!
I'm reading the comments and now that we know what he did, its easy for people to say in hindsight "looking at his eyes, he looks like a killer. " All of the people he killed apparently didn't see ( Killer ) in his eyes. God Bless them.
My mother was in Bountiful Utah playing her cello at viewmont high. She left the building to go home and her bug wouldnt start. She didnt know what to do, there was 1 tan colored bug in the parking lot and 2 other cars. Ted bundy approached her with a cast on his arm and asked if she needed a ride home. just then 2 boys and a girl came out of the auditorium and walked over to my mom, my mother knew the girl, as they approached Ted said "well see ya" and walked back to his bug.One of the boys was a mechanic and looked at her engine and found that the spark plug cables had been removed. he said to my mom "I hate to say this but someone has sabotaged your car, i've fixed it, try to start it" it fired right up. My Grandpa (moms dad) wouldnt let her drive to Viewmont anymore and instead he would drop her off and pick her up. Less than 2 weeks later Debbi went missing.
Mrs Rancourt really moves me. Her ability to understand Mrs Bundy's pain is peak empathy, and it's beautiful to witness. Theresa Smith, sister of Dahmer victim Edward Smith, did the same with Lionel Dahmer. What an example of Christian maturity and compassion for the masses 🙏
I was in high school during the height of Ted Bundy’s killing spree in Washington state. There were announcements & flyers warning of the serial killer on the loose. Prayers to all affected by that awful person & glad he’s gone.
It must be a strange feeling when you think you were so close to death and survived because a car came out of nowhere. Thank goodness as your testimony was very important in nailing this animal.
Say what??!! Other prisoners told the prison that Ted Bundy was going into the ceiling and they could hear him doing it...every night!? And nobody checked it out??!! WTF?? Somebody needed to be held accountable for that at that super lax prison. 😢
Carol, thank you for sharing this. I know it can’t be easy to relive. Your role in nailing Ted Bundy is quite simply heroic. Although we can’t know how many other women’s lives you saved, I’m confident that it was at least a handful. Ted was a truly disturbed and evil man.
I think our “justice system” fails miserably our victims. That he lived so long with warmth, safety, well fed, celebrity status, interest and interviews is as monstrous as what he did.
