Hi, lead developer of 007: Agent Under Fire Reloaded (mod) here. Be sure to check the mod out if you're looking to play a strictly improved version of the game on Dolphin emulator!

It's funny how a video game can change your life. When I was a little boy this was my curtain-raising experience with the world of James Bond. My friend Joey G. had the Gamecube version of this game and after playing at his house I begged my mom to let me have my copy of the PS2 version. My mom made a deal with me "Joe if you get an A on your next test (can't remember if it was a spelling test or a history test) in school and the game is yours. Needless to say, I got the highest grade I ever got up until that point. To my little 8-9-year-old mind, Agent Under Fire was the greatest video game ever put to CD. I spent hours playing through this game over and over: Unlocking the Golden Gun, racing through the streets of Bucharest in my Aston Martin DB5, and using fancy gadgets to escape deadly situations. I was Bond, James Bond, the world's greatest secret agent. One day, my maternal grandpa visited me while I happened to be playing the game. I couldn't wait to show him. "Look at this Poppi!" I exclaimed! "In this game, you're this awesome super-spy named James Bond. There's a Golden Gun, and these fancy cars and all these awesome gadgets!"

Much to my surprise, the concept wasn't foreign to him, "Oh, you mean like the movies?" he answered back. Did my ears deceive me? MOVIES! James Bond was a movie? That was THE moment, a moment that forever changed the trajectory of my life. Shortly after that, I was in my grandparent's basement watching You Only Live Twice on VHS, unaware of what year the movie was released and confused as to why James Bond didn't look like Pierce Brosnan on all the James Bond posters that Blockbuster video had around that time.

If it wasn't for Agent Under Fire, I would not be the James Bond fan that I am today. All the hours spent on Wikipedia reading trivial facts, every Bond movie I have seen and will ever see, every original Ian Fleming novel I have read, and every actor I have ever met from the series, all stem from my early childhood fascination with this sixth-generation video game!

“Looks like someone couldn’t take the heat.”

When I was going through my obligatory bond phase as a kid I picked this game out. Sunk countless hours into it. Great memories.

That's not Cavil, that's Sterling Archer.

41:35 “Shame. I forgot the Basil.” 🌿

This James Bond looks like an AI mix of all James Bond actors altogether, but before AI. Also probably the horniest 007 gaming character of all time. 👍👋

As a fan of this game when I was little a couple of things:
1- The amount of hours I spent with different friends playing the multiplayer. Even the clunky protect the VIP brings me ton of memories.
2- I remember just driving around that town in the 3rd mission with the car and causing "mayhem" like the guest said. I explored and knew every corner of that town, it was my GTA at that time. I remember knowing the exact angle at to hit NPC cars where you one shot them (they exploded if hit right).
3- The bond moves where my favorite part, there so many and sometimes really hard to find. Chasing "platinum" status on each level was hella fun, I think it was a perfect score on the level, or similar.
Thanks for this in-depth review!

It’s a shame kids growing up will never experience gaming like this. I remember my older cousin having the entire EA Bond trilogy on his PS2. This was my first introduction to Bond at six years old. The charm and campiness of this game still puts a smile on my face. Great video, you brought back so many memories.

41:42 "A giant cloning facility? That's not cool."

I got this for the Gamecube when I was a kid, and fucking loved this game.

Thank you for looking at it.

This is the first game I played where I noticed the sound design of the weapons really changed depending on the environment. I spent a bunch of time in the first level's "firefight arena" just listening to the sound of shells and casings bouncing off the ground.

This is one of the funniest games I've ever played, probably not intentionally. I just love how silly it is. The guards front-flipping when you shotgun them, the way other guards turn around like '-WUT' when you shotgun the aforementioned guard, their hilarious dialogue ("It's Booond!! Shoot to kill...!") The animations are genius too. It's just so excellently campy, but really creative as well. Me and my cousin poured hours into the multiplayer, against each other and the bots. The protect the VIP mission is hilarious. Jetpacking and clawshotting around the maps is just too fun. Great game. The driving missions are really underrated as well.

As a lifelong Bond fan, I'm loving the coverage of these older games. It brings back some great memories!

First game I got for my PS2 for Christmas 2001… I was 7 😢

When I played this game, I was getting Roger Moore Bond vibes.

RE: Q vs. R
I always assumed that EA thought that the "R" designation would stick even though it was likely just a joke. (I know that the real reason it didn't last was, Pierce Brosnan couldn't say "Arr" without his Irish accent turning it into "Orr.")

Also, many years ago, I was watching the first episode of Constantine. The psychiatrist in charge of him started speaking, and I went, "I KNOW that face. I KNOW that voice." Sure enough, it was Miles Anderson, the R of this game.

41:35 "Somehow, he'll return."

Bond after Nigel Block falls to his death: Seems he could have used a golden parachute.
