Old Fashioned Shelling ~ Road Trip

Acres of Clay Homestead

In today's video I have to honor of visiting the neighbor's farm while they are shelling corn the old fashioned way. This is something I've never watched before, so I found it fascinating!
After that beautiful day of shelling, it turned rainy for a couple days. So, the guys repaired the tire fender that I ruined and then Kevin and I took the afternoon off and went to a couple local Amish stores.
Thanks for coming along!

I remember shelling corn like that growing up on a farm In South West Minnesota. Our uncle would shelling in the winter he would pick the coldest days because he said the corn shells cleaner.

JD model 71 corn shellers were manufactured between 1958 and the late 1960s. Minneapolis Moline corn shellers were build until the early 70s with the final larger model being sold as White Farm Equipment model 1210 and painted red instead of the familiar Minneapolis Moline yellow ,the Model E that was a widely used sheller.

happy birthday. it was fun watching the corn sheller, and wire cribs etc. i have found that many prices are actually higher in the amish stores and that works because they have many things other stores no longer stock like hand mixers, grinders etc. so you have to know what things are worth before you buy.

My Grandmother had a cookstove and she used that cookstove to heat her house and also to cook and bake with that stove. She had farmers that would give her cobs and she continued to use cobs for her cookstove until she died of old age. She lived a very frugal life , and using that cookstove is just one example.

Oh, the shelling of corn brought back memories. We had a different model and I do not remember the model. After 60+ days, we finally got just over 2 inches of rain. Happy BIRTHDAY a week early Ronda. Thanks for taking us along on the road trip Love the covered bridge. Those are amazing country stores. The sour milk just had to go.

That corn sheller is a real antique and I have no ideal how old it might be. Certainly older by far than the new generation John Deere tractors that ruled the 1960's. Real cool setup and still earning its keep on a working farm. Thanks for showing this seldom seen farming practice.

Green Acres of Clay, Farming according to Kevin. When Kevin says he's talking to his viewer, He is referring to good people like myself lol. I do enjoy browsing through an Amish establishment. I order there never frozen Turkeys for Thanksgiving. When you blow a tire Rhonda it's like a thermal nuclear event! You could sell tickets; I would pay $10.00 bucks. Great episode and God Bless the Michigan Homestead...
