Where does the word Spain really come from? And what did it originally mean?
To try to answer this, we have to go back three thousand years, to a time when Spain didn't yet exist and Phoenician navigators were traversing the Mediterranean in search of new trade routes.
Over the centuries, historians, linguists, and scholars have proposed very different explanations about the origin and meaning of this ancient name. Some became enormously popular; others remain practically unknown.
In this documentary, we will explore the main hypotheses and follow the extraordinary transformation of a name that survived peoples, empires, kingdoms, and languages to reach us today.
