On August 18, 2026, at approximately 1:40 p.m., the Bonn Fire Department was alerted to Kronprinzenstraße/Denglerstraße because a large branch of a red oak tree, weighing approximately 5.5 tons, had fallen onto the roof of a residential building and damaged it.

Upon arrival, it was discovered that the branch was hanging on the roof and still partially attached to the tree, and that cars were parked underneath the tree. These cars were subsequently moved by a tow truck.

One person was evacuated from the building.

In cooperation with the Parks Department, the fire department first used a turntable ladder with a basket and a cherry picker to clear the tree so that it could be secured with slings and the fire department's crane.

Subsequently, branches were removed to reduce the weight.

Finally, the branch was lowered onto the street using the fire department's crane.

The tree was located on city property and extended into the public right-of-way. The area was cordoned off by the Public Order Office and the Public Works Department. The cause is unclear. However, the evacuated resident repeatedly complained to the city about the tree.

The following units were deployed: the B-Service (fire department command vehicle), the rescue truck, the fire engine, the roll-off container crane escort from Fire Station 1, the water tender, the turntable ladder from Fire Station 3, and a road construction vehicle from the civil engineering department.
