SLAYER - South Of Heaven - REACTION! Pleasantly Sinister!

This tune was awesome! My third stop on my Slayer journey was a change of pace. A slower tempo for them but still extremely heavy. South Of Heaven had some fantastic riffs with some unreal drums. Brutal vocals and dark lyrics. Cool composition with some clever change ups as well. Appreciate the suggestions and thanks for checking out my reaction.

I'm glad Gen z can appreciate what I was listening to on my walkman 34 years ago.

This whole album is a Lombardo masterpiece

Is a sin not going into the second song. That's what that high pitch at the end was about to break into. Silent scream

Hanneman gifted us such a beautifully nasty song and album here.

The next song Silent Scream is an onslaught of double bass drums.

This tape stayed in my Walkman for months when it came out. I was a 15 year old little metal head. Long ass hair, Slayer Tshirt, and black leather jacket. Great memories.

The South of Heaven intro , Is like Armageddon day 1988

The entire South Of Heaven album is absolutely KILLER. Slayer really peaked with the albums Reign In Blood, South Of Heaven, and Seasons In The Abyss. They have great songs throughout the entirety of their career, but the era from 1986 - 1990 is unparalleled.

Dave is the best God damn drummer EVER.. THATS RIGHT EVER

Aah, the song that got me into "proper" metal back in the day. And it was Lombardo's drumming that did it. Simply amazing. The classic line-up who I had the pleasure of seeing live several times.
You should definitely check out Anthrax, Testament and Megadeth from that era. It's a musical treat.
Sepulura's Beneath the Remains is another gem which also has killer drums.

Personally feel South of Heaven is the greatest thrash song ever written, on at the time what was the heaviest album ever produced, that immediately propelled Lombardo to the GOAT. And it's even better when continued on into Silent Scream which is an awesome song too.

The lingering end is a transition to the next song. It hurts physically that most reactors breaks off at that spot

Have a go at Dead Skin Mask and 213. Both tracks about 2 infamous US serial killers, Ed Gein and Darmah.

Awesome reaction Ike glad you are enjoying the slayer rabbit hole, south of heaven is in my list of top 10 heavy metal songs of all time, with blackened by Metallica, Davidian by Machine Head, Holy Wars by Megadeth, Years of Decay by Overkill, Walk by Pantera… but other slayer songs are on that list: Angel of Death and Reign in blood. Great band with some iconic songs that truly defined the heavy metal genre at the time they were the Yim to the Metallica Yang at the time. Of course the list would be full of Tool songs but I don’t see them as ‘metal’ 😂
