Before playing John Coffey, Michael Clarke Duncan dug ditches in Chicago and protected the Notorious B.I.G. Three years after the rapper's death, he sat in on the Oscars as a nominee.

This is the story of "The Green Mile" from a side never seen on screen. Stephen King publishes the novel in six issues, just as Dickens did a century and a half earlier. Frank Darabont writes the script in eight weeks and returns to prison with King for the second time, even though "The Shawshank Redemption" flopped in theaters. Bruce Willis lands Duncan the role of a lifetime with a single phone call, and King himself asks on set to strap him into a chair. A moment later, he wants them to unstrap him.

We also show where the film departs from history. A $60 million budget, nearly $290 million in worldwide box office, four Oscar nominations, and not a single statuette.
