40 yards ? You don't need to be a sniper if your target is that close. And your chances of survival are far less as well. That's where the telescopic sights come in. You don't need to be close.

The AI image at the beginning of this video shows a Soldier wearing a WW2 denison Smock, armed with a later mark WW2 only era Rifle casts doubt on every single word in the spoken aspect of this video, I admit, due to that I didn't get passed the point where you said it was 1916.

Apart from the infuriating selection of photos .... this would have been more interesting ... except it wasn't a trick, it was an evolution of knowledge carried over to training and implementation ... a lot of Allied snipers came from game-keeping and farming backgrounds (Scotland, NZ, Australia, South Africa and Canada) this shared knowledge was also critical to improving the British sniping capability .... that said an interesting and thought out "video essay" ...

The Germans used standard Mausers to make their "sniper rifles." Not all Mausers came of the assembly line equal. Some grouped better shots during testing. The more accurate Mausers were then selected for the sniper rifle.
