The talk about the nuclear mission brought back a lot of memories (both in the F-111 and the F-16). Great interview.

I was very surprised to hear him mention that his latest birthday was his 70th - I'd assumed he was a good decade younger than that, at least! Super sharp and a very likeable guy, I thought.

Fantastic interview, and a great reminder of just how good the GR1 was when it came into service (range not withstanding)

Good old TTTE. Did 2 tours there. Loved the place. Now an army base but I still live nearby. 😊

3;03 the OCU Yard of Ale challenge board was a surprising find at the museum at the former RAF Gatow outside Berlin, I believe it was an Italian driver who held the record at 2.75 seconds. Made it's was across from the UK somehow together with airframe no. 2 in MRCA red white and blue!

Terry, interesting what you say about the limited range of the GR Tornadoes. In 82, some BAe Test Pilots I was working with at Woodford, told me that having found the F2 such a better airframe, BAe had put a proposal to the RAF to develop a homogenised Tornado to have a true swing role ac. Even if they had just given the GR the F fuselage plug, it would have added a good bit of fuel, and improved the view of the Navy/WSO. Too bad it never happened.
