I still like my old D810 and if/when it dies I will go to a D850 but I'm not a pro-pro.

Surely the right gear is dependent what they mainly shoot

Lumix S5ii - perfect for hybrid work - 96 mp mode and great video specs, incredible color science.

@Imbecinemah 5 months ago

Lumix S1rii has nearly everything from your list except the rental house option.

For me its fine

Ssd recording, open gate video, capture one tethering, 44mp, best IBIS, probe lenses, can adapt EF lenses

Also sigma art lenses work natively too, anamorphic, the list goes on

I currently shoot with Canon 7D II for sports with a series of Sigma lenses. For my "Sportraits" (sports portraits), I shoot with a Canon 5Dsr also with Sigma lenses. I have a Canon 80D for small projects and LUMIX S5 IIX for video with Sirui cine lenses. Finally, I use DJI drones for overhead shots.

Interesting look into the kit needed by professionals. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you for this video; I always enjoy hearing your thoughts. And especially thx for saying, I buy it used. I gave up a few years ago explaining to my colleagues that buying used is the only sensible way to go, and that doesn't make
you less professional. Great hearing that from someone so reputable like yourself.

My old system was the Canon 5DIV & a 5DSr combo with Sigma art primes, Canon EF L series zooms, and a 90mm TSE, all in all an awesome kit that worked. Today the value to output ratio of that same set up is huge, but the AF on the R5s was revolutionary to me at the time when i switched.

My Nikon Zf passes for me. My work is aimed at smaller local businesses and I work solo, so a lot of the considerations are less intense.

I love my GFX 100S and the lenses that are available; a great set of tools. The GFX system also has a healthy second hand market; and additional lens brands. Quite a good eco system. Even a native FUJI adapter for Hasseblad H leaf shutter lenses. I love the GFX files; the level of micro contrast and that immediate feel of crisp images is fantastic. Next to that I mainly shoot film on 6x6 or 35mm + development + darkroom.

Whichever one you enjoy using, navigating menus, balanced with the images you like.

Far and away the most useful photography channel . . . watch some episodes several times (the useful parts).

Gonna say after being on Canon, using 6D Mkii's and having that interchangeable kit, moving to a 5Ds is a hughe game changer.

So happy that I got one, and really want a 2nd one, but for my kinda work and amount of time in the studio isn't needed just yet.

I will say this with chest, but I love that people like yourself, Harry Borden and the like are breaking down these walls, allowing people a peak into the industry that they may not be involved in yet.

You're really well mic'd up, I can literally hear you in my frontal lobe :D

As you say go with what you feel is right, I'm Nikon I understand the menu where the controls are, done, happy. Use 3 cameras and anything that is handy. More importantly enjoy what you do. Everyday is a school day

The Hasselblad X2D II 100C is the "best" camera for me. I shoot mostly in studio fashion with studio strobes.

I don't shoot tethered.

The leaf shutter is the main feature that sets it apart from other cameras.

Having 100 megapixels, larger than a full-frame sensor, a large bright rear LCD, a CNC-machined aluminum body, and the Hasselblad brand are all bonuses.

Good advice. One of your best.

@leedodge4227 5 months ago

How 'bout that, I landed on Pentax K1000 😊

@StoicJason 5 months ago

I’ve had them all from the big 3 plus Fuji. Since about 2010, they’re all good enough for photos. Since about 2022, they’ve all been good enough for video. YMMV
