giant broccoli explosion has to be in the top ten long-con payoffs of all time

season 3 will convince bro so hard 😭

I always love the canon event of "Season 2 felt like the end, what could season 3 be?" right into "I'd like to apologize for my lack of understanding and my weak faith, Mob Psycho 100"

Aight, but eventually, a group of 5 ripped, super positive guys do show up and help me, right? Right??

I like how he ran out of avatar to overanalyze so he just became an anime channel

I think the Mogami arc is probably my favourite arc in Mob Psycho 100. Mogami shows Mob how much suffering he would have endured if not for his power to justify Mogami's use of his own power for evil (vengeance against the people who have wronged him). The great thing is, it almost worked because in a reality without his friends and loved ones, the suffering that Mob endured in the illusion world nearly got the better of him. He almost used his power the same way Mogami did. He only managed to overcome Mogami's illusion with the help of Dimple, and he realizes how lucky he is to have people around him who steered him into the path of righteousness. This arc really helped me appreciate the good people around me, my friends and family, who made me the person that I am.

I’m a little shocked you felt the animation in season 2 didn’t have higher highs than season 1. I understand preferring the art style, but man, the entirety of the mogami arc blew me away and still stands as the best animation I’ve ever seen (barring maybe DBS Broly). Maybe that’s a crazy take though? I still haven’t quite gotten around to season 3, but that’s mostly because I’m bad with endings.

18:42 I really wish you talked about the part where for just a brief moment Mob indulged in using his powers in the final battle before realizing his mistake when he sees Risu look at him.

Teruki’s immediate change is largely due to him experiencing “the sublime”

to be specific, being forced to face head on the sheer difference in power broke his original view of himself and others. I can understand the criticism but to me it makes sense

you're genuinely good at media analysis unlike a lot of current video "essayist" which inspires me a lot. I've seen so many vapid recap videos that yours are a breath of fresh air, despite the fact that you're absolutely underselling my favorite show.

All of the mob psycho intros are love letters to animation, showcasing animation in it's many forms, and the songs are all written in a way to induce anxiety to fit with the themes of mob's anxiety over losing control.

season three is just dimple and reagan becoming your favorite characters by a large margin.

As far as I'm concerned, the low stakes of this show are one of its biggest strengths. Because not only do they exemplify Mob's own struggles very well, they also allow room for so many other topics that would usually get overshadowed. In fact I'd say the contrast between, on the one hand, this show's occasional touch with more high stakes and a scale of power and conflict that's downright absurd at times, and on the other hand so much focus on low-stakes social situations is great because that contrast is kinda the main point of the whole show. Because to Mob, the stakes are naturally switched. To Mob, that "mundanity" is where most of the conflict lies. So much of it is internal, and so much of it is found in the ways that Mob himself contrasts the low-stakes environment. His one talent in life is his psychic aptitude, which is perfect if you want to belong into the world of great psychic conflict, but to Mob it's just the barrier to all of the things he actually wants or needs. Purpose, fulfillment, pride, and above all, real genuine connection to others. Things that he would never pursue through his psychic powers or even in the "world" of psychic powers because he resents his powers and everything they've screwed up in his life (especially between him and Ritsu, who probably would have turned into a very different person without his fear of Mob). All his focus lies on the "real" world, the world where he wishes to live, and all of his thoughts and worries are centered around finding a foothold in that world.
I just feel like it's so nice because it grounds the show in a way that many other shows, especially anime, don't even attempt, and far more rarely get right. Every show needs a hook that pulls you out of that mundanity, every character needs to behave in such a way that they never feel too "average" or "boring". MP100 does the opposite. It starts off with a downright absurd premise and then harshly beats you over the head with the fact that a lot of it is just smoke and mirrors, and how many of its grand premises are just attempts to flee from the more simple, humble humanity that can be found at the core of everything. Mob's own struggles stand at the center of the story of course, but I feel like every single character showcases this foundational truth from their very own angle, and so many of them make perfect foils for Mob because of that very reason.
I'd love to get into further detail in regards to all these aspects but some of that might get into season 3 territory. But the one character I want to touch on briefly is Reigen, because I think his whole deal is perfect for this story. He's just a regular guy, no powers or anything, and yet he starts off as one of the more fantastical characters of the entire cast. His image, his trickery, his con skills and his absurd luck all live in a category of their own, and he's far from what you'd consider a regular grounded person, even in a show as bizarre as this. And that's exactly how Mob sees him too, why he looks up to him, why he trusts him. And then, over time, the show takes great care to slowly unravel that image and show more and more of the person behind the smoke and mirrors. The whole of Reigen's character is maybe a bit spoilery, but just the cold reality of his loneliness during his two-episode separation from Mob is great insight into what he's running from. In many ways, he himself is guilty of plenty of the things he accuses claw of in the season 1 finale, showing that for him it's much easier to preach than actually live his truth. And it also serves as a nice cold reminder that Mob's success with his personal struggles is not a foregone conclusion. Because Reigen, despite showing poor naive Mob an admirable role model, fundamentally fails at many of the things Mob wishes to succeed at. And those failings became his primary motivation for living the lie of exceptionality.
Anyway, look forward to season 3 and all that. It may or may not go further into everything I mentioned here.

you saved the entire review on the animation on the last few frames of the review lmao.

heads up, that mogami fight was animated by a 17 year old, who would then serve his country in the military right after finishing that entire stretch of combat.
dude made peak and left to fight war, idk how you get more manly than that.

If Season 1 was a way to introduce me to these characters and their quirks, Season 2 was an action spectacle for Studio Bones. Esper vs Esper combat never looked so good!

That's hilarious, I literally just decided to watch the season 1 video an hour ago after putting it off. Universally comical timing

The thing about the "mob is possessed" theory is that it's NOT entirely wrong. I'm pretty confident that IS the impression ???% is supposed to give, that the viewer is supposed to look at that and wonder "is that really Mob?"
...Because that's how Mob views it. He's spent so long repressing his emotions and maintaining self-control that his own full potential is alien to him, a different entity that he can't control, can't understand, and is outright afraid of. It isn't possession... But in a way, it is, even if it's self-inflicted.

You should watch orb: on the movements of the earth

Your videos on this show convinced me to watch it and I’m loving it. I’m looking forward to finding out what the conflict of season 3 will be
