There was another video that showed this beautiful 3D printed dragon that was intricate and has tiny cherry blossoms on it and the thing is, it was for personal use. She wasn't selling it and it was a design she made.

In my opinion small business owners spent a long time online participating in the "I had an awful customer today" trend, so it's no wonder it's turned into an us v. Them thing.

I love this angle on this topic, cause it really does depend on DID YOU design it. Did you create it? Yeah I very much agree with you on the 3D printed thing. Also your hair is magnificent.

I was beginning to wonder if the "I HOPE YOUR SMALL BUSINESS FAILS" videos were some sort of conspiracy, so many of them have almost the exact same wording and bad faith arguments that it feels like they all came from one place.

Doing videos on festival scams is one thing, but the phrase "I hope your small business fails" is so specific, and I see it from so many creators who aren't normally that harsh. They don't feel like they're addressing those individual scams, it feels like they're trying to discredit the concept of "small business" as a whole.

22:45 it's actually crazy... the youtubers who specifically point out the predatory tactics and manipulation used in youtube advertising and then turn around and use those same tactics are WILD

13:21 oh no not nuance! The one thing the internet hates.

Cakes by Katie is dumb. Recipes can't be copyrighted. They're considered functional, not an art.

There are tons of great small businesses, but I don't think of them when I hear the words 'small business.' Go to a good small business that just does a good job without needing to constantly mention they are a 'small business' to excuse all their shortcomings and you think 'I like that coffee shop, boutique, restaurant, etc.' and don't even register the business size. People constantly saying 'support small businesses' on social media are usually not capable of running a business. They're offering substandard products for an inflated price and have terrible customer service to top it all off. It's not real small businesses that are a problem, it's people constantly talking about the small business they're running into the ground that are the problem.

what i hate most in these 'i hope your small business fails' takes is that soooooo oft it uses real artists&crafters as examples too. i see it so often with fabric arts
like okaaay do people overprice their products sometimes? sure. but YOU'RE the one complaining a handmade thing that took several hours is more expensive than temu!

When your channel grows, I want everyone to know I was here from the start 🗣️🔥 (keep going girl)

I really like your editing style! You made me laugh out loud a few times

A lot of those AI videos look so realistic... even the letters generally read correctly. Time to stop asking "do the details look right" and focus on whether or not the details make sense.

And if/when AI gets even better, time to never buy anything online that isn't from a known source ever again.

It’s the consequence of people constantly using pity and moral superiority as marketing, many people ended up adopting an us vs them mentality (with varying degrees of validity). Sure, not all criticisms are deserved and there's people who are directing their anger at those that didn't make them angry in the first place, but I’m glad that in general, more people are taking a customer’s rights into account as well instead of just dismissing every criticism or refusal to buy based on someone’s business practice and/or product quality as a moral wrong because “they’re a small business” like back in 2018–2020 (from my POV). We’re not entitled to their products or services, but they’re not entitled to our money either, and I think at its core that’s fair at the end of the day it's just business.

I was so surprised when I glanced at the number of views and channel subs at the end of the video, I honestly thought you're in the "big leagues" of conversational videos side of youtube! One day soon hopefully! Really appreciate how balanced this take is btw. Both sides of this discussion always feel so exhausting and just stupid

It's because it seems like every small business is selling the same 3D printed dragons and other junk. If you make something cool and unique 3D printed great. But if I'm passing 3 shops at our fall fair selling the exact same items that's the problem and onto crochet which is my favorite hobby that I sell as well. Every crochet person is making the same stuffies out of the same chunky yarn which gives your project zero definition. If you make something unique great but when these stands are selling the same things it gets tiring

It sucks because small businesses that are actually good at their crafts and sell them for reasonable prices don’t get much attention because… what do ya know?! Their craft takes TIMEE and EFFORT?!?!

I’m not discarding the fact that other businesses don’t take time and effort too but it really goes to show that quantity will survive over quality on the short run.

I bought these amazing hand crafted CLAY earrings, the crafter used silver plated studs because she needed to bake it with the clay and not have it melt. I bought a white border, lavender design earrings back at 2023. To this day, it has not stained, chipped, bent, or even broke. And I use them DAILY, even showering with it, losing it multiple times etc. Etc. She has a loyal fanbase of course but not enough to expand her business.

And then fast forward to 2026, I see these clay earrings of a strawberry from a pretty well known business and thinking “oh this is gonna be good quality too!”, bought them for 50 DOLLARS. They freaking broke on my first wear because it was air-dry clay!!! When they specified it being OVEN BAKED.

I just- hate shady ah business.

Omg a nuanced take! You've earned a new sub from me!

12:22 this is a dumb take. Small businesses don’t “run up the price” simply because we’re a small business and want empathy. It’s usually priced higher because the products are handmade and have a lot more costs to consider before it even makes it to the art market where a customer may or may not want to buy it. The reason big chain corporations can charge $12 for a hoodie is because they literally have factories and millions of overworked/underpaid employees in china. Most small business owners don’t even make a whole lot of money at the end of the day because owning a business is expensive no matter how big or small and it’s usually one person doing EVERYTHING they can to keep it going. I own a small business myself out of pure enjoyment and doing something I love. I’m at the point where I don’t expect to make big money every time I attend an art market but I do it anyways because I genuinely like creating stuff and selling it to people who see the value in my work despite the price. In my experience, most small businesses I’ve talked to have this same mindset.

3-D printing can be an art form if you designed it yourself, but those diamond dozen dragons and octopus and knickknack things should be literally a dime a dozen it doesn’t cost that much for the filament you can even use plastic bottles to make 3-D filament

5:15  theres a few 3D people on youtube that I actually like, I can't remember the name of them but theres one dude who makes little desk games and foldable games into books (ForgeCoreCo). As well as theres this one woman who makes cute massive variety of  frogs and bats that I just love seeing the process and painting process that she does (SorrelSouls).
